    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    What a marathon!
Two Days to play and hours to write up.
    I took about 130 photos!

A Black Day for the Adler

3 KIA – including my primary character, Rookie Karsten Rüdiger, and the commander of the Zweisitzer group and his partner.
That really knocked the wind out of my sails, especially Rüdiger. I was hoping to have an interesting storyline for him, but he kept getting injured, every time out!

Eisenhardt will sit out for six, so that’s the end of the campaign for him as well.

Giesebrecht is my second ace in this campaign – luckily he will only miss one mission so that is one bright spot at least.
(although technically there are only four more missions left for the scouts since the next one is to be all 2-seaters)

Even my Bulldogs did not get away unscathed, with Mackay KIA in his first mission back after a long absence.
The bright spot for them was Lewis, with 3 kills in his first sortie.

It was a good mission, Paul.
The cards and die rolls just did not cooperate for me this time out.

Holy wotsit Pete ! More jams than at a Vicar's afternoon tea with the W.I.... !
No wonder you're tired, I was exhausted just reading it. Another epic, bloody encounter over the trenches, well done sah.

    Onkel says:

I am in awe of your efforts and sacrifice today - the information required has been obtained but only at great cost to the Kaiser's Eagles. I salute you all.
The actions of Ltn Günther Giesebrecht have been brought to the attention of HQ and he has been awarded the Iron Cross 1st Class When he gets back will will be in a mood to party
I'm sure that devil in that Nieuport will get something for his efforts too (MID & CdGs); we'll have to look out for him.

(Pete PM me Giesebrecht's ace skill from the OTT list & replacement pilots/crew you need)

That was a fight and then some. Wow! Tight spot too getting any photos back in a one remaining, badly damaged 2-seater. But bad luck being spotted on the 1st turn.

Look at the bright side...you’ve cleared your roster for the next ‘flight of death mission’.

A black day indeed. I can heard Säugerjäger shouting:

Eisenhardt verwundet und wochenlang außer Gefecht.
    Melbeck getötet
    Engelbrecht getötet
    Rüdiger getötet
    Giesebrecht fast gefangen

Wie kann das Oberstleitung dies möglicherweise als Sieg bezeichnen? Ja, im Krieg ist ein Preis zu zahlen, aber manchmal ist die Mission die Kosten einfach nicht wert.

{Eisenhardt wounded, and out of action for weeks.
    Melbeck killed
    Engelbrecht killed
    Rüdiger killed
    Giesebrecht nearly captured

    How can the High command possibly call this a victory? Yes, there is a price to be paid in war, but sometimes, the mission is just not worth the cost.}

    Worth the rep, though.

Wow Pete, what a mammoth game, incredibly dramatic, as others have said, jams galore, heroics and death a plenty. Excellent AAR, everything was clear, I could see what was happening and your descriptions were spot on.

Is this a new mat, I dont remember seeing it before, looks very nice, the planes stand out much better than on the Ares mats, did you have it printed or is it commercially available? Now i have a bigger table i need a bigger mat, but can't face making another, this might be the answer.

Sorry to see so many of your pilots KIA, especially your Rookie.

    Thanks, John.
It was tough rolling those C&W and E&E results, but I knew there was not a lot of hope after booms and fires.
I have used that mat occasionally, but it was the first time in this campaign.
I thought it would work well for this scenario and it did.
I had it printed on a blanket - an idea I got from Zoe Brain in Australia.

Ye Gods Pete - that was a veritable blood bath. Three of your own KIA and one of the Bulldogs too, plus Eisenhardt out for six. Makes my recent losses look pretty tame by comparison. Commiserations buddy, particularly for the loss of Obltn Melbeck RIP. Tough fight that one and no mistake. Full marks and more for the report and pics. Congrats for that Not sure if the result was compensation enough, but well done anyway.

Yeeeouch! That was a bloody encounter for all involved. What a brutal marathon.

A pilot from each side stood out and had quite the day of shooting. I'm eagerly waiting for the day Lewis and Giesebrecht face off.
