Very nice Paul.
Run for your life - there are stupid people everywhere!
Thanks, Steve.
Indeed, Paul - great stuff here! Is the lozenge decalling, or did you paint it()? Great colors, in any case.
All the best,
Matt
Bit of both - yes, the lozenge is a decal and, yes, I did paint parts - mostly the light blue and the light grey-green. There's a small saga with the lozenge. I was ready to make my own when mehusia's 1/144 Direct sale started and I saw that the blue Fdh GIII lozenge in blue was available. Not knowing how much I needed I bought 2 sheets planning to decal both top and bottom sides of the wings, fuselage and tail since the approx $100 in publications seem to indicate that this was the case for the lozenge fabric. Okay...well the sheets arrived and I thought I could only do one side. But when I finished the top side I thought maybe I would just have enough. So I started patchwork on the bottom side and then suddenly realized I had missed one whole section in the middle of each side of the underside of the top wing. Argh. Back to ebay and mehusia had just one sheet left, which arrived on Friday. Fine, except there were gaps here and there so I tried to colour match but one the way to getting a match I decided I liked the brighter colours of the light blue and grey-green and did the whole plane with a bit of over-painting on those. The dark blue and black were only to paint over spots where the decal printing rubbed off - and there was a bit of that.
I do overpaint decals a lot - here's a work in progress with home printed lozenge overpainted - ignore the non-straight line on the tail, I was just goofing off - it's been fixed. It's Hans Muller's Fokker DVII, Jasta 23 based on a picture in the Aeronaut book on Jasta 23.
And, of course, the '6' and 'IV' decals are homemade on white decal paper. I scanned in a section of the 1/144 decal and put the numbers in white over top a section. Naturally the lozenge printed out brighter than the original decal - it would wouldn't it? So I needed to mask that difference too.
I repeat what Philip said WOW and awesome.
Have an order in with Dave (AIM) and it should be here this week. Also have some planes to decal so should have photo up Tuesday.
I like your technique a lot, Paul - that DVII is looking wonderful, too - and the swan on the side is killer. The Gotha did look to have a mix of decal and paint - your explanation makes perfect sense. Keep up the inspirational work - it's wonderful!
All the best,
Matt
Hey Matt your albums are looking awesome as well! Haven't found out how to give you some direct and well deserved rep! Well done!
Great stuff, as usual, Bob! I love how you continue to focus on some of the lesser-known combatants and planes for your collection Keep up the inspirational work!
All the best,
Matt
Running out of lesser known AF's for WWII. Working on some jet stuff for something different.
Two Valom Fokker DVII taken from the Aeronaut Book Royal Bavarian Jagdstaffel 23 by Bruno Schmaling. The plane with the swan is Ltn Josef Muller. Muller was from Hohenschwangau which is near Neuschwanstein castle (the inspiration for the Disneyland castle). The swan is on the town coat of arms. The plane with the black fuselage is Oblt Eduard Ritter von Schleich. He was not officially part of Jasta 23 but the commander of Jagdgruppe 8 which included Jasta 23 and from the spring of 1918 shared quarters with Jasta 23. The lion on the Bavarian lozenge is his family coat of arms.
Or get bored to do something different. Have my thoughts for next month and a bit strange.
Paul those are great.
Yes, I am there too. I have less than a dozen builds on my want to do list, and with no one playing the game around me there is little motivation. I got a glimpse of excitement on the Martian front, but that is still a maybe and less. So a few strange builds to keep the elves around. The grandkids are talking more large dinosaur models and maybe a pirate ship for the back yard . . .
Close ups of my Valom Fokker DVII - Josef Muller (Swan) of Jasta 23 and Eduard Ritter von Schleich - CO of Jagdgruppe 8. I even out the edging between the upper and lower wing surfaces and changed it to a lighter shade, which to the eye blends in better - will also group with Stark's Fokker nicely too. The photo colour balance is off and I couldn't seem to adjust it back to the as-it-appears-to-the-eye balance (e.g., the 'yellow' lozenge bits on the top wing are more orange than it appears, black highlights on Schleich's aren't as strong as they appears - oh well).
A BRS armada, roughly airbrushed today. Since I treat the BRS minis much more like gaming pieces (the game reflects rather a group clash of planes than individual pliots/planes) I went down a very easy/lazy lane this time.
The colours are mostly true to original Pactra's range, the patterns are...more than simplified, so to say. Anyway, considering a 4 hour work (yes!) On all of the planes and a tabletop distance view, the result pleased me. Now blue canopies, some touchups and decals to be applied and the toys will take off for some good use.

Can't wait to see the finished product.
Very nifty!
Rep guns jammed, Bob. The silver MiG looks terrific! Great job! and thanks. My father is going to visit us this afternoon - he will be surprised!

Back to finishing a few tanks for the TANKS! game...finished up decalling them yesterday and Dullcoted them this morning before things got too hot and humid. Doing them in batches of four or five seemes to work well, so I've already pulled the next four to start gluing...
The first two are British Shermans - on the left is B Squadron, 23rd Hussars, 11th Armoured Division while the right is C Squadron, 1st Coldstream Guards, Guards Armoured Division...
These two are opponents - a Tiger I generically marked and a Hetzer done up for Heeres-Panzerjaeger-Abteilung 741...
All the tanks I've painted so far are for Normandy/NW Europe. May branch out a bit later, but still quite a few to do. I've tentatively decided not to do tanks from the same unit as to have a coherent troop or platoon, but I have 5 Shermans done now, and even though each is marked differently, I don't mind pretending they are all from the same unit should I need to. It makes it more interesting for me as a modeler to do different units - variety being the spice of modeling... (at least in my sorry case...)
All the best,
Matt
Andy that was nothing special just a silver paint job with Polish AF markings.
Matt those are great looking tanks. rep is jammed but will get that to you when I can. Someday I need to get my 1/72 stuff out and take a few picture of them. Most of them are over 40 years old from when I played TRACTICS. Mostly ESCI models.
Matt if you do another Hetzer how about an ambush scheme for it ? Can't wait to see what you do for some Stug III's. Also said I was running out of WWII AF's to do well I found something to do with some decals I saw on MISCMINI.
Sigh, been a while. Still painting but also busy with other stuff. Still have some more Rev war stuff and some Romans in 28mm.
And then Earth called in reinforcements from the future to help with the Martian issue expected some time in the future (all Metal figs)
Lots more where this came from still needing paint, and yes that is a rare Ogre Mk VI on the far left in metal.
Nice AWI figs; Blackpowder I assume.
And classic/retro Ogre figs

Wow! Love the space use! Very conducive to our obsession!
I am afraid it is more Naval than air based as a concession to the fact that it is still a room that is a way through to the new dining room for guests. However, it will soon see some stirring air battles as I strive to make up the lost time in our solo campaign. Now four games adrift.
Back scene arrives next week. then it is just a matter of mounting it and we are away. Next shots I will open the cupboards and drawers.

Thanks Karl, Ogre ain't dead yet. 6th version went out a year or so ago. Now it is all plastic sculpts dirt cheap but still true to the metal ones. On the Ogre line up there from left to right.
Mark VI : Steve Jackson Games Metal fig bought from Area 23. Limited run and not been avalivble in years. Talk of doing a KS so they can make plastic sprue ones.
Mk V: SJG Metal fig from the old Video Box collection early Y2K's
Fencer : SJG Metal Video box set
Mk IIIB: Metal Extra Main battery, 2 more missles SJG Video set
Mk III: Metal Ral Partha Old style pewter from a blister pack, late 90's
Mk III Metal SJG Video box set
Also got in a Mk III and a MK V from Area 23 last week in plastic. On the painting table (somewhere) with a base coat on em.
And concerning the Rev war figs, just painting em up for the hobby store. Not sure what he is going to do with em. Some day will get back to my BP Napoleonics in both 15 and 28 mm. Maybe after Pennsic.
Loving the way your quasi-Man Cave is developing here, Rob! Quite the nice balance of aesthetic and function, to be sure... And I love your idea of a background for your gaming table - it looks so cool when you and others show your pictures with a background appropriate to the event.
All the best,
Matt
Cheers Matt.
As I said the background arrives next week and slots in behind the board so I can have either Western Front or Seascape. Might even look for a spot of dessert terrain yet!

Nice recycle on the cabinets and love the clouds around what I assume is your work area. Very calming.
It will be both my work area and games table in rotation Bob, but yes it is very soporific already even after only one G&t.

I had been talking about captured tripods on the T&T section of the Forum a while back, so when my KS arrived Tuesday, I managed to wait a whole three days before repainting the Locust as a captured German machine... I based it on the three-color scheme used on late-war tanks (and also seen on Stahlhelme). For more pictures, check the thread under the General Discussion section of the T&T sub-forum, if you are interested.
To finish this little beastie off, I have some 10mm flags coming, and he'll eventually get an Imperial German flag flying from a mast above the rear engine nacelle...
All the best,
Matt
Three days Matt - you're so patient !

Amazing paintjob, Matt. The machine looks even better than the original one!
