Thread: Our first 'real' Tuesday night T&T

Default Our first 'real' Tuesday night T&T

We (actually I) decided we would try a version of the 'Hunters and the Hunted' scenario from P28 of the rule book. As you can see we had 2 Mk.I tripods versus the new aircraft (Nieuport, Fokker Dr.1 & Camel). Just in case you were wondering - humankind is still safe and the Tripods were defeated (this time)

It was a real blast but we think we still need to get our heads around not just the mechanics of playing with the tripods but also the best strategies to get the most out of the tripods.

Anyway, a few shots from our game - I won't put up a blow-by-blow description as I suspect we made some mistakes as tripod jockeys:

Darn, caught out by the rotated photo issue again!!!

    A few closing comments:

    1. I've got to say that I am not a fan of the new-style abbreviated cockpits but we will need to play a few more games before I start dreaming up replacement cockpits for the Tripods. For the aircraft we used the original cockpits from way back when.
    2. The base game contains some excellent objective and terrain markers.
    3. The base game includes two smoke markers - enough for the one Tripod in the box but if you need more than that you need to download and print out extra markers (the URL is given on P24 of the instruction manual.
    4. As I mentioned above, we need to go back and carefully reread the rules pertaining to Tripod actions and also the effects of explosions on Tripods.
    5. We need to devise a nicer way of recording explosion damage to aircraft - we ended up using dice placed on the Boom card to indicate the number of damage points inflicted on the aircraft. For the effect on a Tripod, see point 4 above - we got this badly wrong!

Thanks for the glimpse of our future Wayne - the models all look pretty swish so that's pleasing.

Take it an explosion on an aircraft is not the usual dreaded boom result and an early bath then ?

No it was not. If you download the PDF rules from Ares it was a tad confusing and the first exchange resulted in a boom for Tripod and Nieport. But a very good game was had by all.

    That new mat looks great.
Is it “full blown” mousepad or cardboard?
It looks as thick as the City one.

Cardboard I’m afraid Peter - same thickness as those included with the giant bombers.

Is it single or double sided? Does it connect to any other Ares mats?

The paper mat comes in the Invasion box and it is single sided. It blends perfectly with other Ares mats except London.

The Invasion box has some really good extra components in it.

    Bomb card (1)
    Martian skill cards (12)
    Additional Objective templates (2)
    Game mat
    Short automated tripod template
    Long automated tripod template
    Tripod mini posters (4)
    Tripod decks card holder
    Airplane decks card holder
    Kissenberth's camel
    Red Baron's DR1
WW2 Tripods & Triplanes damage counter set (252)
WW2 Wings of Glory damage bags (2)
Sword and Sorcery Scroll cards (4)
Sword and Sorcery enemy cards (7)

More scenarios and rules including WWII vs Tripods

I printed out some paper cockpits for the Tripods, as in playtesting, there were a few things not included in the material.

I used these: OldGuy59's WoW WWI Consoles Album

I also printed up a few paper templates for the individual tripod marks, to use for overlaps. I'll have to see what comes in the boxes when they finally get back to British Columbia.

PS: I just uploaded my Mk II and Generic cockpits in the above album.
