Saturday afternoon I ran a game with my Zeppelin!
This scenario has a Zeppelin returning from it’s raid over Britain. Bad weather at high altitude has forced it to drop below the high winds, down to a level where aircraft can intercept. Some German scouts were sent up to protect the big ship as French and British RNAS scouts were scrambled when word got out that a Zeppelin was in reach.
I used a watered down version of the Zeppelin rules that are in the files.
Funny how you put a Zeppelin on the table and out come the cameras.
Five Albatros D.IIIs reach the Zeppelin just before the Entente appear on the scene.
The scouts engage with the Germans taking the first hit.
A French SPAD that has the audacity to approach the behemouth belches smoke for his effort.
An Albartos is downed right in front of the Zep’s nose.
The Albatros do a good job distracting the Entente attackers.
Brumowski avoids battle while clearing a jam. A pair of SPADS fly under the Zep’s tail.
Alice does not seem impressed with the flying skills of =her Entente opponents.
The Welsh Dragon (my lovely wife’s plane) makes it’s presence felt. The Zeppelin gunners take note of it’s position.
Brumowski’s view after he clears the jam and returns to the fray.
Guynemer flirts with the Zep and flies between the gongolas.
A small fire breaks out but the engineers quickly put it out.
Guynemer is lit uip as he emerges from under the Zep while a RNAS SPAD engages.
The Zeppelin was extremely lucky in this encounter. It avoided any boom shots from the Entente aircraft. It also quickly put out it’s fires as they all occurred on 1 point damage cards.
The Zep also had an advantage as there were 15 players. This considerably slows down a game having less turns played and the Zep taking less attacks. But hey, once in a while a Zeppelin has to escape to tell the tale.
