Thread: Saturday at Origins 2019

    Default Saturday at Origins 2019

    Today was another great day.

10 am played in Jim's "For the Czar". 3 Ilya Muramats and 4 Sikorsky I-16s vs a flight of Albatros DIIIs of Jasta 5 with a pair of Roland C.IIs.

I jumped at the chance to fly a Roland C.II. Can't remember flying one before. Bob (Bobsalt) flew the 2nd Roland while everyone else for the Germans had Alb D.IIIs.

J5. The Rolands were just behind the D.IIIs.

The Russians before vodka. Jim (rhodie80) showing a photo to Dave (Caveman), sitting at the table behind is Matt reading rules getting ready for his next game, Phil (milcoll73) in his trusty helmet, Glenn (Glen2122) next to Phil, Daryl (ReducedAirFact) of Reduced Aircraft Factory on Shapeways looking on from behind Glen.

Bob approaching the front of the Ilyas while I am behind them. How did I get there?

I planned to fly into the 2-3 of the I-16s figuring my all around firing arcs would wreck havoc. As we all know, all plans fall apart once contact with the enemy is made. My front gun arc missed by a millimeter and the rear gun then jammed. Of course this was the first card of the plot. I missed what should have been 3 great shots, but luckily I took only a couple as there were other targets besides myself. I then flew over the Ilyas and started my turn to give chase.

What's this in front of me? No sooner did I get past the bombers and out of nowhere there was a Russian escort in my face. (Just shot down the turn before a respawned I-16takes me on)

Ah but luck was with me. ( I was wearing my helmet and goggles) My first shot set the Ruskie on fire.

A couple cards later the I-16 gets closer and I send two pilot wounds into him. I was being kind killing him so he did not suffer the fire.

Jim figuring out who's firing on who.

I slip into the blind spot and start picking away with an Albatros that sadly is taking all the rear gunner's fire.

I forget if we took down one or two bombers before the time ran out. Jim I hope will fill out the whole story. If anyone else has photos of this game please show your view of it.

It was a lot of fun as quite a few of the usual suspects were present.

Next up I ran a game with my rarely used Zeppelin. 15 players! An incredible turnout but few too many. The game went slowly with this many but it seems they all had a good time.
Phil got to pilot the Zeppelin, not many can say this. I used a simplified version of rules from the files section.

6 Albatros D.IIIs escorted the Zep with 8 attacking SPAD V.IIs, N17s and Sopwith Triplanes.

    Plans being discussed.

    Great looking planes.
Great to see those Russkis on the table - I remember seeing them on the site a couple of months or so ago.
Love the Jasta 5 D.IIIs - great paint jobs.

P.S. Peter - your "plans being discussed" pic has the attachment devil issue.

Great game and thanks for the who is who Pete. It is always good to get a handle on faces known and unknown. Also a very succinct commentary on the progress of the game with some excellent shots of the Ilyas.
    Thanks.

    Pete, photo fixed. (I hope)

Rob, I always love the who's who photos so when I remember I try to post some myself.

Dave, the Musketeers aren't the same without you!

Phil, you got to fly some unique craft this Origins. I doubt there are many who have flown what you have.
