Hi, My interest in world war 1 aviation started back in the sixties with Victor comics, Airfix models, and Biggles.
During the early eighties I joined Cross and Cockade and generally kept up my interest by talking to lots of veterans of WW1 including pilots / mechanics. In the air, Chidlaw Roberts was a great influence and talked about his brush with Voss that resulted in his crash into our lines. On the ground, Tom Smalley a first class air mechanic with 23 Squadron, a greatly missed friend recalled his experiences.
Towards the end of the eighties I helped organise talks with WW2 pilots at Elvington just outside of York including Kayll, Johnson, Gunther Rall, Gabreski, and many more.
I love wargaming and WW1 aviation has been my thing for many years. I’ve written a set of rules called Always Above and illustrated it with photography from my collection. Wings of War aircraft are superb.
