AAR #1: Dogfight over the Adriatic We started with a dogfight over the water with Craig flying the two-peg Austro-Hungarian Macchi M.5, BalticBob flying a four-peg Austro-Hungarian Macchi M.5 and John flying a Phonix D.1 (we need some more Austro-Hungarian flying boats). On the Italian side, Bob was flying the Green Macchi M.5, I had the white Macchi M.5 and Todd flew a silver painted Hanriot HD.1 with A guns.
Here is the initial lineup. Please ignore the wrinkles in the water; those are just waves.
Quite a traffic jam.
Baltic Bob had been flying far from the action when he swung in to attach. Unfortunately, he was hit at close range by two different airplanes. Not only was his plane shot down from damage, but he had a dead pilot at the stick. Notice the small splash his plane made when it hit the water.
I manage to set John's airplane on fire.
Todd adds further insult to John's problems by shooting him down. Only one Austro-Hungarian airplane remains.
Finally Craig hits the drink with another splash.
Total damage to all three Italian airplanes would have been insufficient to shoot down a single airplane. A definite victory for the Allies on the southern front.
