Thread: June 2019 Workbench

    Default June 2019 Workbench

Had these extras sitting around so decided to do a repaint. These are the CR 42's for the German pilot. Strange camo but I have 3 of them. Then I saw some new decals from Kevin (MISCMINI) so now I have new planes for an early war AF. These are for the 3e Esc Belgium AF.

Wasn't sure of the camo they used but I did see a Hurricane painted somewhat like this. I have an order from Dave (AIM) that will be here this week so have a few more planes to add to my Belgium AF.

Nice job! Always liked these birds but history did not, awkward place on the airvolution ramp upward. Won't be adding much this month, the left arm is not co-operating these days like it used to. Might need a replacement . . .

As always I see where touch up are needed after taking photos. Your input here in many ways is always appreciated. We are all getting a little older LOL. You take care a rest up. You being here and adding your wisdom is what is important.

    Belgian Cr.42 fought bravely:
    http://surfcity.kund.dalnet.se/falco_belgium.htm

They were a few, but they shot down three Bf.109E, a Ju.52 and two Do.17, damaging several more of them.
    Here the victories:

These arrived in May, but I finally worked on them this month for tonight's session at Gritty Goblin Games. In the foreground are six Royal Navy 55 foot coastal motor boats. Next are two Royal Navy 80 foot Elco motor launches. Last are three United States Navy 110 foot sub chasers. I plan to feature those tonight. All are 1/600 from https://ptdockyard.com/ in their Splinter Fleet line. The MLs and sub chasers require some assembly of fiddly bits. I need to add some color to this lineup.

    Default Jasta Greif greift an!

I finished up the planes for my Jasta Greif unit last night - decals and final clear spray 'sealed' the deal... Kevin/miscmini did an awesome job repurposing his WW2 griffon decals for my project! I am pleased with the way the final product turned out. I took an existing Jasta's markings (Jasta 71 - red and white striped tail) and added the red and white fuselage sectioning to make it a 'new' Jasta. The red and white striping is continued on the Jasta commander's Fokker DVII's upper wing, as well. Each plane has a colored stripe behind the cockpit to differentiate pilots - with the exception of the purple for Kurt Wolff's DVII, the other colors are all facing colors of Imperial German regiments (from which their pilots came).

First photo shows all six planes...

Not only was it fun creating a 'mythical' Jasta to use at Origins this year (this year's Origins theme is MYTH, hence the griffons), but it was fun trying to come up with something that (minus the griffons) 'could' have been an actual unit of the Luftstreitkraefte. I will be sure to post game pics/AAR from the Origins game.

    All the best,
    Matt

Two Valom Albatros DVa - Joachim von Hippel, Jasta 5 (in his aeroplane and not Richard Flashar's) and an unknown pilot from Jasta 18 (Raben's Ravens). No eagles - just one raven (well, two actually as there's one on each side of the fuselage).

Those big flying boats are certainly a sight to see, and they are usually monsters on the game table - lovely job, Paul, as usual! This reminds me that I need to get to work on my second Felixstowe...perhaps after Origins...

Nice assortment Steve. Are those Condor's AIM models. If so how did or will you mount them ? I have one and have been wondering how to mount it on a peg/stand.

Bob, one of them is AIM, the other is a metal civilian one that I picked up cheap in Hamburg earlier this year. I’ve ground a hole in each Condor, and will superglue a large bearing into the hole, and stick a magnet on the top of the peg. I had to put the hole in the gondola of the AIM one so it is offset slightly but as the model is quite light it shouldn’t be a problem.

Thanks Steve. I thought about that but was worried I would not get it right and wondered if you had a different idea. Guess I just have to take my time when drilling the hole. On my AIM models I usually glue a bearing on the screw and that works well.

Been a while since I touched base, here are a few items that have left my paint table in the last few weeks. Been busy doing leather work for a LARP I belong to and Historical re enactment the middle ages (SCA). Things are starting to calm down a bit now though. Have some more cowboys and now he has me doing American Rev war. Others have me doing a chunk of D and D stuff, and assorted other items.

My friend Schrödinger had a cat once in a box too as I recall, wonder what ever happened to it? Perhaps it also was a time traveler of a quantum sort . . . .

I don't believe Schrödinger actually ever had a cat Dave.

My cat "Salem" likes boxes. If you ever go near to one of which he is in occupation, lid down or not you certainly get to find out pretty quickly that there is a live cat in there. Sometimes you even escape with all your fingers still attached.
