Yeah, the Windsock Datafile on page 2 makes it clear that the history and differences between the types is very murky. The chart in the back notes that fifteen were ordered as H-12s but delivered as H-16s, fitted eventually with 375hp Rolls Royce Eagle VIII engines. Which is the same engine used in the H-12B, confusing things even further. (The original batch of H-12s were fitted with 250hp RR engines, having originally been delivered as H-8s with 160hp Curtiss engines.) I would assume the increase in horsepower would have a good effect on speed, but I haven't seen reliable figures.
