Thread: King Kong base

  1. #1

    Default King Kong base

Last Tuesday night our group had decided to take a break from the rigours of the aerial battles over the trenches and, as a bit of light relief, relive the glory days of Hollywood via a King Kong scenario.

I got all inspired and whipped up a more substantial base for Kong on my 3D printer. But as it turned out the night was a bust with Doug having a prior engagement and me being confined to quarters with a nasty cold.

Oh well at least we will be prepared for next time!

This was a ‘quick & dirty’ design and print so I haven’t put the .stl file up on Thingaverse and I don’t think the files section here can handle that file type (yet).

Looks fairly similar to the base I contructed for my Origins scenario a couple of years ago, except mine was pentagonal instead of hexagonal... You can see a picture from my album on this url...https://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/at...2&d=1492213366

Nice job on the 3D printing option!

    All the best,
    Matt

Oh Matt that is a great base and one mean gorilla. If I ever revisit my print I will have to investigate a way of bringing textures into a Tinkercad model.

Nice Job there Wayne. I have a cold myself which put Mark off as well so no game took place last Tuesday. Looking forward to playing that base. Your last pic looks like KK has stopped for lunch. Meanwhille I might check out King Kong movies on the tube.

Matt, I was wondering how you got your Kong to stand on that sloping roof line and then I noticed the 2 small holes in each roof segment - inspirationaly clever!!

There is a small brass rod in his left hand and right foot - the holes are drilled based on a template of the same so that he can be moved around the top of the building based on a die roll each turn. I roll two six-sided dice - one black, one white - the black one determines whether he moves clockwise or counter-clockwise (evens CW, odds CCW) - the white one determines how many sections he moves (1-4 is that number of sections, 5 or 6 means he remains in place). It works pretty well - I have players plot their three-card move for the turn and then roll to determine where Kong goes. He is a wily ape...

I look forward to reportage of your scenario when you're able to get the gang together and play!

    All the best,
    Matt

    Matt,
Could you bring your King Kong out for battle this summer?

Dan, I am sure he could climb his way out of the display case and stow away in my planes box for a trip to Epic Loot...

Well, after seeing Matt's photos, I decided to revisit my Kong roof print and try for a tiled effect on the roof. After more than several false starts, I decided that the best way would be to print 6 equilateral triangles with a 'tile effect' embossed on each section. This meant that I only had to design one triangle and print it 6 times to form a completed roof.

I did this for 2 reasons - it was the only way that I could see (in Tinkercad) to get the tile effect correctly orientated and it mean I could glue 2 sections together which would make for easier, more compact storage. The complete roof section could then be 'assembled' on a mat for use in a game.

Here are the completed sections laid out but not glued. I will need to make an expedition to the local hobby shop for some plastic strip to glue over the joins plus add a few other bits and pieces. Why oh why do I plunge into a new project before completing the previous one??

I love what you have created here, Wayne! I can't wait to see it painted and finished for your game

    All the best,
    Matt
