    Default Aces High

If you like the movie 'Aces High' about W.W.1 flying, then it is being shown by ITV4 (Freeview channel 24) at 4.30 p.m. on Saturday 18th May. It is a completely fictitious and contains some historical inaccuracies but itis a good story.

Always worth a revisit even though there are too many tiger moths pretending to be SE5s

They look like Tiger Moths but they are actually Stampe SV.4s. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stampe-Vertongen_SV.4

The Avro 504 was real and there was a replica Fokker E.III. The other German W.W.1 planes were adapted post W.W.1 aircraft. The film reused aerial sequences from The Blue Max and Von Richthofen and Brown.[

Always a good watch. Claims to be based on Cecil Lewis's book Sagittarius Rising which is a great read.

Actually based on a play about war in the trenches & the short life span expected.
Cant remember the title but I am sure someone will chip in with it.
It is one of my favorite WW1 Aero flicks & I have it on DVD.
Malcolm McDowel plays the main role really well!

The film is based on Journey's End by R. C. Sherriff with additional material from the memoir Sagittarius Rising by Cecil Lewis, so a combo of both sources to provide an RFC take on the idea. (apparently acknowledged in the opening credits !) Journey's End gives a glimpse into an officers' dugout over four days from 18 March 1918 to 21 March 1918, the last few days before the German spring offensive (Operation Michael).

Seconded! Lack of planning on my part meant I missed it first time round.

I really enjoyed Lewis's Sagittarius Rising, a wonderful read, so I shall have to check out Journey's End and see if I can find the movie anywhere. Thanks for the suggestions!

    All the best,
    Matt
