Default BGS surprise game at Wings of Prague

On sunday 14th April 2019. The game designer Andrea hosted a BGS game at Wings of Prague Con with some new & prototype ships.

Here you can see him right beside our 2019 LL member Mike.

Myself owns a copy of the BGS base game, but never played before a game. So this was my premier flight and I had the honor to fly those ancient Cylon pancake. The performance of those ships was so excellent that they gave two ships to me to balance it a little bit against the colonial ones.

On the right side you can see one of the paper heavy raiders.

A stilish dice tower for shooting.

Other fighters saw their premier flight at Prague:

The Mark VII Viper with an additional cannon with limited shots, the Blackbird stealth fighter and some paper raptors. One of them with a backward firing gun.

    Our starting position.

A good view on the miserable statistics of the museum raider: attack - 8, sturdiness - 11, acceleration - 3. At all those raider are FTL capable.

Mission goal was to prevemt the colonials from scanning some moons.

Honza's unescorted raptor was surrounded by Markus raider and my flying pancakes.

Due to the high speed of all actors and some ugly dice rolls my vintage raiders weren't able to score with the first shots. (...at all they promised me a bonus for the next shooting.)

    Andrea explains the game.

Don't know what he told Rob, but the WingCo did his best with those complicated tiny lines ond small six-cornered movement cards.

...but don't worry Rob. Same here. thos cards looked all equal to me.

Tim & Paul, veterans of last year's con premier game were ready for movement.

Mike supported with explaing the rules to Thomas.

Paul did some tricky maneuver with his raptor and surprised the raider with an excellent rotation.

Rob landed his viper Mark VII on an asteroid.

It's a fact: No flames in space, but if you know our WingCo, be shure he arranged something with gin & oxygen in his cockpit before he created a nice little crater on this asteroid.

Can't give you a more detailed report of the game, because it was my first one.

I was busy with maneuvering my pancake & adjusting the controls. Never pilotet a raider before so I can't thell you much about the differences.

At all I will buy one of those ancienet raider, to habve one in my collection.

Does anybody know if we won the game?

    Nice report, Sven!

Despite losing a Raptor and a Viper, we Colonials won the game (officially, according to Andrea, since we managed to scan the 2 moons required for a win).

I have a few pictures of my own, which I'll try to add when I get a chance.

    Great report, Sven.

Even better with pictures. Thanks for taking them.

Flying ships with an Acceleration rating of 2 and Accuracy of 8 is difficult. You are limited in maneuver options, and need to watch coming out of Rotated maneuvers at high Kinetic Energy.

Also, considering the odds of hitting on a roll of 8 is not too much different from a roll of 6, my luck in hitting, even at short range and using the Aiming rule, is terrible. My second flight with the Heavy Raider in Comox (my first was during this game in Prague) was an exercise in frustration, trying to hit my target.

Games with challenges are nonetheless fun. I will be picking up, at least, one of each ship type when they are released. Or as you say above, I might need two Mk.I Raiders for balance.

Those cardboard model ships look quite good. If there are more production problems in China, perhaps they could be issued as a 'stopgap'.

With the expert individual tuition given by Andrea, I think we all came out as winners in some way, and as a bonus I got to sunbathe on an Asteroid, even if I could not read the cards.

Only in desperation, as they just don't have the looks:

Perhaps with black outline printing, but that costs ink I didn't want to use. Anyway, they are getting on the table, again. More mayhem this weekend. Rocket Pods!

So you are signing up for my BSG game at Doncaster then Rob.?
If you and *Steve are playing I will have to limit the number of possible asteroids you can bump into .

I'm learning to fly, but I ain't got wings

Just hope Hedeby does not try to crowd us out with his up-gunned Viper. He seems to have a penchant for rocky outcrops.Ask anyone who knows Raffer J Larwood.
