A follow-up to a thread I posted a while back. The winner of the contest for 3-D printing a human habitat on Mars has been announced:

Very, very cool! Now if the elves cooperate . . . .
It would mean shipping a large tank of printing material to the Moon or Mars but it would be less bulky than transporting buildings.
Every one knows the planet is made of chocolate and caramel, hence the origins of Mars bars!
That sounds delicious! Everyone would want to live there, if they only knew...

I see no reason to believe that Mars is made of chocolate and caramel. It is made of cheese. Just like the moon.
When the cow jumped over the moon sufficient dairy was delivered to render the cheese, but Mars is udderly too far for such a stretch. . .
You would need one hell of a 3D printer to produce one of those...
Never Knowingly Undergunned !!
One of the reasons the search for water on the planets for local construction. The Chinese supposedly have developed a method of making concrete from lunar dust and water . . . a 3D printer is all you need when you have the water and the powder for the slurry . . . not a stretch to making a habitat . . .
Thanks Sam, very interesting!!!
