    Default Skirmish for Four

    With my fellow pilots away, I decided to play solo using the charts and die for all four planes. The aircraft were chosen based on what manoeuvre decks I had charts for.
    Therefore the combatants were a SPAD S.VII and a Sopwith Camel, against an Albatros D.III and a Fokker Dr.I.
    I found that once the game was reduced to two planes, there was not much engagement between them. I have put the turn and manoeuvre number on each photo. You will notice there are no photos between 7.1 and 11.1. During that time the planes did not come near enough to fire. I concluded the game after 12 turns because nothing was happening!
    Yellow comments on the photos are about the playing of the game. White comments are on the action.

    Well done for the unusual game. I never would have thought of using AI for all planes. Do you think the result might have been different if you had flown one of them?

    There were times when it was a bit frustrating. For example, a plane in a good position to attack an opponent but the roll of the die meant that it turned away from the opponent. If I had been flying that plane I wouldn't turned away!

    As to whether the overall result would have been different, it is hard to say. When I have played one on one games, with one plane on AI and me flying the other I have had mixed results. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose, and sometimes I stop because nothing is happening.

    Nicely presented, Doug.


    I like the turn segment notes - I had thought of doing that for our Over the Trenches solo games to help the reader keep track.

    Thank you for the A.A.R., Doug. It was interesting to see how an all A.I. game developed.
