The Be2 had a good head start on the scouts sent out to bring him back. Guy Bordeaux was seriously reconsidering what he had done , and how he would explain it to his CO ,even with his broken English.
Still that was the least of his problems. Glancing in to his mirror he could see 2 monoplanes closing to within firing range. He was a sitting duck.
Patterson and Pierce saw the lumbering 2 seater trying to evade the Fokker's on its tail. “ Perhaps its better that the Germans get him “ thought Patterson . The CO had a notorious temper and a very long memory when it came to insubordination
Koch and Shafer were tantalisingly close to getting Bordeaux in their sights
Koch peeled right while Shafer dodged left .
Shafer could see the RFC scouts bearing down on him but concentrated his fire on the Be2 just missing the planes tail (0)
A second burst failed to strike .
Shafer saw the muzzle flash from the Nieuport's Lewis and felt a sharp pain in his upper thigh (3+pilot). Looking down he saw blood beginning to stain his trousers.
He began to feel woozy
Without warning a 3rd German scout appeared on Pierces port side. Already committed to attacking the red E111 of Koch he tried to avoid the blue Halb of Priesner
Koch's rounds pounded into the Nieuport's fuel tank at short range
Pierce caught more lead as he passed Priesner
Koch turned and caught Patterson with a passing shot , not enough to damage the Morane badly .
Ironically Bordeaux was making good his escape , leaving the scouts to soak up the damage from the Adlers.
Shafer turned his plane towards his own lines, dropping the Fokker into a low dive to avoid any RFC planes, Pierce struggled to keep the flames from enveloping the fuselage by zig zagging after Koch.
A quick burst clipped the red Fokker's rudder
Koch was hard on Patterson's tail, the rounds striking the Morane's engine block causing it to stutter.
More rounds hit the oil line, spraying lubricant onto the hot engine and pilots face.
With his plane in danger of falling from the sky Patterson edged towards the safety of his lines.
Priesner was sticking doggedly to the Nieuport eager to bring him down .
Turning onto his prey. A long burst and it was all over for Pierce. The rudder shattered and a bullet struck Jonty in his back. The plane bellied up and flamed towards the trenches
Koch Immelled expecting to have a RFC plane in his sights ,but all that was there was empty sky and a spiralling fire ball. The enemy were no where to be seen. Priesner signalled to return to base dropping his plane to escort the wounded Shafer home .
Bordeaux could see the airfield ahead of him, but looking around he saw none of the scouts that had come to rescue him. Things were not going to be good when he landed .

a victory to the Germans .
Nice scenario Mike. The killer for me was the 3rd Hun appearing and mowing down my Nieuport . Nasty
