I don't have anything particularly spectacular to share, but I just felt that I needed to recognize this day and bring it to the attention of those who may not have known. It just seems appropriate on this site.

101 years ago today Great Britain's Royal Air Force officially came into being.

I hope you'll all join me as I lift a glass, or better yet, PINT to honor a truly valiant service!!!

(Tonight I'll have to put either "Dawn Patrol" or "Ace of Aces" into my player!)

Shared Happy Birthday with the slightly younger Royal Canadian Air Force, celebrating it's 95th.

The Canadian Air Force formed up in 1920, but didn't become 'Royal' until 1 April, 1924.

While the date may have been less than stellar, the result of the merging of the RFC and the RNAS certainly was!

My visit to Hendon in January reaffirmed that, indeed!

Both a good idea and a bad; it certainly helped in the competition/duplication of effort, but it also virtually crippled the development of the Fleet Air Arm for quite a while. Does seem to have worked out in the end, though.
