Looks like another twelve to add to the collection...plus extras for repaints. Bring 'em on! (When do we get more balloons?)

Just Dallas and the green lozenge Rumpler then? Good news! More to buy!

Still a little too bad about Ares still tying the scouts to the 2 seaters. The Rumplers will be around for years after the SE5s are long gone...

Except for the serie 1 (Albatros D.V, Fokker Dr.I), Ares reprints of WOW series have a good quality.
On the pictures, WOG minis are on left side and WOW mini on right side.

SOPWITH SNIPE Barker (more accurate colour on WOG mini)

AIRCO DH.4 A.E.F. (more accurate colour on WOG mini)

NIEUPORT 17 Nungesser (on WOG mini, the horizontal stabiliser is unfortunately not painted, but the upper wing has an accurate camo painting)

RAF RE.8 (on WOG mini, the engine, front fuselage and cockpit struts have highly accurate paintings)
But Monse, that's not what I meant, or am getting at...................

I meant the SCULPTS were worse, the models themselves - I didn't address the colours at all! The colours are not relevant if I'm going to be repainting them!

    Yes, you are right.
So I will say Wings of War series 2 and 3 reprints by Ares have a sculpt quality quite good.
Let’s suppose this next serie will have the same sculpt quality.

from the looks of it, while the green lozenge rumpler looks the same as the wings of war release, it has a different fuselage number and unit then it.

Oh, that's tricky! So is this a "standard" factory scheme, then? If there were many virtually identically painted in service, I might get this one as well.

A nice group. Would have liked to see Ball, too but I am not complaining! I am a big fan of the Breguets, there will be more in my scenarios!

    Not a standard one.
On the picture below, the comment says : “Rumpler C.IV 8231/17 is from the same July 1917 production order as numbers 7950/17 - 8349/17, but is one of the few airframes covered with lozenge fabric.

Wings of War lozenge Rumpler C.IV is number 8267, also included in the same July 1917 production.

So it can be considered these two Rumpler 8231/17 and 8267 have an unusual painting, that gives them more interest.
And it is a good reason to get the WOG model even if we have the WOW model !

The two pictures show this plane after a failed landing. No date and no information about what happened to the crew.
The red strip might be an identification marking and can be seen on upper wing (1st picture) and on fuselage (2nd picture).
The painted white rudder differs from the other planes of the BR 111 squadron.
The black circle on the rudder seems to be a personal insignia.

The emblem of BR 111 squadron shows a white swan on a blue lake and a red sky (french flag colors).
The migrating swans fly in V formation. This tactical formation has been adopted for bombing missions.
First planes of the squadron to have this emblem are the Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter in February 1917.
BR 111 squadron is part of GB 6 (Bombing Group 6) included in the Escadre de bombardement n°12 (Bombing Wing 12).

Pfalz's and Se5s for me, I only have 1 Dallas from the first time around, none of the rest, and McCudden is a MUST.
I might have to get another Breguet too

If the Pfalz D.III's were excellent at diving, perhaps there might be an extra short dive card in their manoeuvre decks like the one in the Phonix D.I's deck. We shall just have to wait and see.

Very useful for the Shapeways, or the aircraft model builders I am sure. Let's hope they do the Bomber stands as well.

Great news : resistance of Pfalz D.IIIa / D.III has been upgraded to 16, like the Wings of War version.
On the pictures below, Ares has revised the wrong bases of the Pfalz.
As notified by Ares, it looks like some of the changes were indeed a mistake.

Another new change by Ares compared to the first miniatures pictures posted last week concerns RUMPLER C.IV deck.
It is now the K deck (instead of H) like the Wings of War version.
    https://www.aresgames.eu/games/ww1-w...s/rumpler-c-iv

H deck was not accurate as Rumpler C.IV top speed is 175 km/h.
    (K deck : 160 to 180 km/h / H deck : 180 to 200 km/h)

The Rumpler was always a K deck..? Did they actually tout it as a H deck or have they simply put the right stands underneath them for photo purposes ? Same for the Pfalz - they were always 16 HP.
Not the first time the stands have misrepresented the real stats on the advertising.

On the first pictures posted by Ares (see 26th March message), Pfalz and Rumpler bases had different data compared to the same Wings of War models.
Due to many complaining, Ares discussed about this with Andrea and it appeared that some of the changes were indeed a mistake, and Ares has decided to revise/reprint the wrong bases and cards.

On left side, the correct bases / on right side, the wrong bases.
    Resistance of PFALZ D.IIIa : 16 (instead of 14)
    Resistance of RUMPLER C.IV : 15 (instead of 16)
    Deck of RUMPLER C.IV : K (instead of H)

Some informations gathered here about Breguet 14 (crew Stanley/Folger) and 96th Aero Service

    Breguet 14 - crew Stanley / Folger
The 96th brought down two more enemy scouts of 15 encountered on raid to Danvillers October 29th . 1st Lt Gilbert Stanley, pilot, and 2nd Lt. H. T. Folger, observer, were wounded in the combat and forced to land at a hospital near Verdun.

    Breguet’s tunnel machine gun
Andrea Angiolino has announced that Stanley/Folger's Breguet has an optional rule card, using an additional "tunnel machine gun" under the fuselage, pointing to the rear. It fires to pursuing planes.
Ģ Later a fixed tunnel gun was mounted in the fuselage to shoot under the tail, as the enemy’s favorite point of attack was the blind spot where he was screened from the observer’s tourelle gun by the stabiliser. ģ

96th insignia “The Devil to pay”
Just before embarking upon its first aerial mission, the squadron decided upon its insignia, a black triangle outlined by a white strip enclosing the profile of a red devil thumbing his nose at the ground with one hand. In his other, he held a white bomb. This distinctive emblem was designed by 1st Lt. Harry Oliver Lawson, the squadron's very talented graphic artist.

A tragic event for 96th but a funny reaction from Germans.
Then, on July 10, 1918, the 96th suffered it greatest fiasco of the war when an entire flight of six Breguets, led by Major Harry Brown, took off in poor weather, became lost, and landed near Koblenz, Germany by accident. Brown and the eleven other men were captured and spent the rest of the war as POWs.
The Germans reportedly dropped a message on a U.S. aerodrome that stated, "We thank you for the fine airplanes and equipment which you have sent us, but what shall we do with the Major ?"
In his Memoirs, General Billy Mitchell wrote, "Needless to say, we did not reply about the Major, as he was better off in Germany at that time than he would have been with us." It is interesting to note that, after the war, Brown apparently spent time in a military prison called "Governor's Island", but the circumstances are a mystery. He was discharged from the Army in 1920 and died in 1960.

It is quite common that prototypes are out about half a year before release - not just for checking details, but even for advertising. They are usually pretty close to reality - for example they changed just upper wing machinegun on N.11, nothing else.

PS: Did you notice the time of Andrea's post? Crazy man...
