Thread: Roosevelt Nieuport and Coolidge Spad XIII

Default Roosevelt Nieuport and Coolidge Spad XIII

    Hi everyone,

New to the game and I love it.

I have been inspired by some of the wonderful custom and ace repaints that I have seen on this site and other places.

I am looking into repainting a Nieuport 28 as a Quentin Roosevelt and a Spad XIII as a Hamilton Coolidge. I have found good information on the painting but I have two areas I could use some advice and help.

Is there a place where I can get the necessary decals for the squadron markings and has anyone done any custom card art for these.

Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!!!

Hmmm... I wonder who might do cards for this?

First off, are there existing cards?

PS: Doesn't look like any official card was made:
Wings of War - Full Contents List
General Overview of Released Minis - WWI

PPS: Can't find any paint schemes online for Coolidge.

For decals, you might try Kevin [miscmini]. He did up my custom Ni.17 decals, and a great job at that. Link: Wings of Prague Lend-Lease Raffle 3 - Vimy Ridge Scenario Airplanes

1/144 Direct (mehusla on ebay) has a nice 94th set but at the moment they are not available. I'd keep an eye on ebay for when he returns.

I found this photograph of Capt. Hamilton Coolidge but the plane does not look like a SPAD XIII. I think it comes from the very rare book 'Letters of an American Airman: Being the War Records of Capt. Hamilton Coolidge, USA. 1917 – 1918.' containing a collection of letters written by Hamilton Coolidge.

PS: This plane should have a white and blue striped cowling, and I just noticed the white spine on the fuselage, behind the cockpit. And, of course the big "14"s on the wings. But I now have a template for Ni.28s.

I picked up a plane yesterday. I need to check my paints and see if I can find some decals to change the number and add the kicking mule. If all else fails, I will get it painted at least.

Really nice. That is some really nice work.

I just picked up "The Nieuport 29 America's First Fighter" by Theodor Hamady from the library. Got some good color plates to work from. Really nice book for anybody who may be interested. I am going to stop at the hobby store and get some paints this week. I hope I can find somethings close. The model master and vallejo lines look like they may work the best.
