Default Wings of Prague 2019 – games

Hi all. I have two messages about the games for upcoming Wings of Prague 2019.

First message is that the timetable is almost finished. See below.
There is still one slot fur Sunday unfilled. So I have
an urgent call for a volunteer!

As a reward you will get a pleasant feeling in your heart, that you are the important part of this project and a big thank you from my side.
And remember, there is a different type of medal connected to the Prague Con for Gamemasters.

Here is the actual version of timetable:

As the second message to you, I would like to announce the opportunity to register your name for the particular scenario in advance. I dedicate 10 places for the forumers for each scenario (with an exception for SGN).
While we are expecting about ten more players who are not part of the forum, I want to give them a chance to join for any of the scenarios offerred. I hope it is enough for you. If not, I will open more places later.

Here is the googlesheet where you can put your names in.

As you know, Mike has already discovered a lot about his scenario Vimy Ridge.
I would like to ask all other gamemasters to make some advertising about their missions too.
This thread is a good place for it, I think. Then the players will better know for what to register.

    OK.

    Vitry-en-Artois

Scenario adopted from Battle of Britain campaign here: http://www.littlewars.se/wow/bob2_s3.html

Escorted German bombers are attacking French airfield at Vitry-en-Artois, defended by 607th[1] RAF squadron, which is just rearming from Gladiators to Hurricanes.

[1]: The original scenario says 609 or 615, but online sources suggest 607. If anyone knows the correct number, let me know.

  5. #5

Landing back at Vitry-en-Artois on 13 May 1940 after enemy fighter had shot away his R/T near Louvain, P/O Peter L Parrott of No 607 Squadron RAF was snapped by a visiting photographer. Having claimed 2 and 1 He 111 bombers shared and another 2 damaged during the previous days, the 19-year-old pilot was sent home on leave on 17 May, only to see himself looking down from an RAF recruitment poster which seemed to be plastered everywhere.

Here are some more details about

Clash in the Pacific mini campaign (USA vs. Japan)

Players:up to 12 (evenly split to both sides). If odd number, one player (and only one) will fly two airplanes. Resurrection included in all missions.

Mission duration: 90 minutes after set-up (each mission)

    Gaming area: 180cm x 120cm (each mission)

    Mission I: Reconnaissance
Find enemy Carrier Strike Force! Both sides are trying to locate enemy CSF (true and dummy tokens included). Side which finds enemy first gets advantage in next mission.

    Mission II: Attacking the Carrier
Once the enemy has been found, attack to sink enemy carrier was launched. Defender has only CAP in the air, and must launch other fighters one at the time. Attacker strikes with full force.

Mission III: Attacking the Carrier - Strike Back
Similar to the previous mission, but with sides changed. Also, defender has all airplanes in the air, ready to fight.

The two SAILS of GLORY Missions will be connected by the storyline.

It's 1812 and a US/French grain convoy is sailing to France. The Royal Navy quick arranges an interception squadron to get this convoy.
Unfortunately both scenarios are limited to 8 players. Game size: two gaming mats.

Special points can be earned by taking the grain ships or kill a famous captain. I have to think on a special win point system by closing enemy ship boxes.

    1. We have a fog bank scenario THE FOG BANK (scenario name). Open sea battle. Both sides start in formation, make a few turns and then the fog appears. The next 4 maneuvers are planed secretly and will be executed at once. The battle continues from the new ship positions.

    2. We have a breakthrough scenanrio NEAR THE COAST (scenario name). Sea battle with some small terrain elements* to symbolize the near coast. The supply ships need to reach the opposite side of the map to escape and score points.

Uncommon in this scenario in those battles is the part of new/special ships we have.

newest wave HMS Agamemnon vs. special pack USS Constitution
HMS Concorde vs. newest wave USS Bonhomme Richard
newest wave HMS Hamdryad vs. newest wave Bertin
    HMS Amelia vs. Dryade

    * I count on you, Rob.

My WGF scenario take place in 1918 at the AH/Italian front (Piave Strafing Attack scenario name).

We have an A/H strike force with 5 UFAGs and a small Aviatik escort (1 - 2 planes)

    6 ( - 7) Italian planes defend the targets.

We have some aces on both sides and the usual "ignore one jam token". Easy altitude rules will round up the game. 3 resurrections allowed per side. Have to work on the victory point system to balance the whole thing a little bit. Collisions will be solved by collision cards.

This is a scenario for twelve players, but it's possible to upgrade to 13 - 14 (if needed) by adding some B-firing planes.

    Game size: two gaming mats.

I will post a new timetable later, when I get more info about the missions from Daniel, Andrea and THE VOLUNTEER.

Here are short descriptions of my and Zdenek's missions:

The Heinrich Kostrba's best day mission commemorates the 18th Feb. 1916, when Kostrba scored three times in one hour and five minutes. He was the first Austro-Hungarian fighter, who achieved three aerial victories in one day. And his nationality was Czech, therefore it is my avatar here on forum.
Italian bombers are to bomb the targets in the city and flight back on the italian side. Italian fighters are their escort (just for balancing the game) trying to shot down enemy fighters. A-H fighters (mix of Fokker A.IIIs and H-B C.Is) tries to shot down as much enemies as possible. Austrian Fokkers are bounded by an agreement with the Germany, that they cannot operate over enemy territory to keep the secret of the gun synchronizer. Therefore, they cannot cross the trench line depicted on the map.

The deserters are about two groups of enemy fighters fighting in the area above trenches. Prior to the 5th planning phase, deserters are randomly picked (according to the number of players 1 or 2 on each side). Deserters change the side at that moment, and their task is to land with an airplane at an initially hostile airfield. The fact who is a deserter is public. It is dated to the summer of 1918 so there are fast and agile airplanes in play.

    Hi Pilots

let me invite you to first of my scenarios for 2019

After first crush landing, they finally built simple airfield. Over 6 next days entire 77th "Chindits" brigade was transported by air. Finally landed allied fighters to support infantry.
Then Japanese discovered the enemy deep in their territory. The battle began.

    Today I've found the volunteer!
It is Ladinek who will take care about the Sunday mission. It's going to be the most popular scenario that is played in his shop regularly since 2016. It is called Operation Michael, and it was developed by Andrzej (Nightbomber).
Here is my BIG THANKS to Ladinek

    Here is the updated Timetable

You can find that the gap at Sunday is already filled and I updated the names as it was reported by Nemanja and Michal.
You can also find the new color that is used for Andrea's mission at Sunday. It is for Battlestar Galactica game.

    Psssst!
    Andrea discovered
me two little secrets about his missions:
At Saturday he will introduce to us the official rules for the torpedo bombing.
For Sunday he will bring the new types of starships for BG.

Both are worth to be there.

    Hello fellow pilots,

This year I'm focusing on the Battle of Lida which was held almost 100 years ago. Original Battle of Lida has taken place on 16-17 April 1919 during Polish spring offensive on nort-eastern part of polish-soviet front, with the goal to capture Vilnus from bolshevik hands and incorporate it within borders of newly established Poland. The city of Lida was a gate to Vilnus and was strongly defended by 3rd Revolutionary Regiment and 6th Revolutionary Regiment, both from Western Rifle Division of Red Army and supported by armored train. Polish attack was led by units from 1st Legion Division supported by 41 Rifle Regiment, which capture the city on 17 April 1919 after harsh fighting.

Original Battle of Lida was not supported by any air forces. This scenario is fictional „what if“ air clash, assuming that polish HQ designated small airforce with a goal to destroy Soviet armored train, while Red Army decided to use their scarce airplanes to support defense of the city of Lida. The main story in this scenario is focused over the armored train, where Soviet forces try to keep it on the battlegrounds to support defense of the city, while Polish forces aim to destroy it to weaken defence lines.

Scenario is intended for 9-13 players, with Polish side having three bombers, the rest are entirely fighters. The scenario will lead to some dogfighting, but requires some experienced bomber pilots to lead bombing attack on armored train.

I hope you'll enjoy it! See you in Prague!

Can players use their own models (a/c, ships, etc) ?
Everybody loves to show off their own custom painted models !

If yes, which will be used / are required for the specific games ? ( Albatros III / Fokker triplanes / Zeros / Warhawks / 74er SoL / Frigates ????)

    Hi again,
regarding the scenario: "Attack in the Port in Mountains 1945":
Beaufighters are key planes in this scenario: powerful, with rockets, ship busters.
    I have only 2.
If some pilots would like to bring its own Beaufighter, very good, bring it and enjoy!
It will not influence balance of the game, because they are expensive in VP on the other hand. The risk grater, but results better

The mats are unofficial. Downloaded from the files section on anchorage. There are two pieces 80x100 cm each. Than together 160x100 of the open sea.

Please see bellow my Sundayś mission description

Early Birds – RNAS bombing raid

In 1916 Sopwith 1 ½ Strutter started to serve as a workhorse of British air forces. Though not being agile fighter aircraft, it served in multiple roles ranging from recon, light bombing, to fighter single seat versions.
This mission should represent bombing raid of RNAS flight in summer 1916. Bombers in single seat version allowing to increase bomb load and performance will be protected on the mission by two-seaters.
Though they were flying early on with the raising sun, this time they are misfortunate to be intercepted by Jagdstaffel on Halberstadts. Otherwise we have no fun.

So far looking like a simple bombing mission. There are however some differences trying to make the game more enjoyable by adding a bit more realism:

    a) Targets of the raid will be hidden to defenders until bombs start to fall. Attacking crews will be provided with the photography and chart.
    b) Defenders will not be able to distinguish between single seat bombers and two seater escort until they close up to one ruler distance. They can shoot them all, however .
    c) To have entertainment also for attackers, there will be some AA which they recognize when reaching half of the gaming matt.

    Optional rules used:
Altitudes, Full Load, Aim, Strafing, Collision
Bombers cannot bombard when on fire or smoking. They cannot also shoot or repair MGs when bombing. Full hit of AA destroys it. Half hit scores damage A.

The game is primarily scaled for 9 players.

    RNAS
2x Sopwith 1 ½ Strutter, single seat, equipped with 3 bombs each.
    2x Sopwith 1 ½ Strutter, escort

    German Jagdstaffel
    5x Halberstadt D III

    Deployment:
The game area will consist of two standard battle-matts. Planes will be deployed in formation either in one or two per side, according to players’ decision. Both sides will enter on their short edges of the area.
Each group will be placed on randomly selected place on its table edge.

The task of RNAS bombers is to destroy primary and secondary targets. As soon as they drop their bombs, they can steer home (leave the area through their own table edge).
Escort should protect the bombers. If they are gone, they may also leave.

    Scoring:
Primary target intact (no full hit) = 2 VP for German, secondary intact = 1 VP.
Each full hit of the target = 1 VP for RNAS, partial hit = ½ VP.
Each shot down plane = 2 VP for the shooter.
Each plane leaving the area before their task complete = 1 VP for other side.

I will bring a few unpublished spaceships, especially Colonial ones. If you have a basic box it's ok, if anybody has a couple more of Cylon Raiders it's better. But I can bring them instead and I will also give to somebody a couple of lousy old raiders from first series/Razor instead than a "modern" one from the Reimagined.

DO WE NEED A SECOND SPACE MAT?

...or do we play on 90x90 cm with 10+ gamers?

I have a 90x90 cm space mat too.

So if we have only 1 mat in Prague I'll put mine into the luggage.

Because I have planes, SoG ships & an industrial complex mat with me I need to know. All unsused stuff cost me more calorines.

Malta is great, but I need more sea. Is it possible to have both this and two Sails of Glory mats - or a large sea one - on Saturday morning?

From the list of the available stuff, is it possible to reserve the game materials from a Deluxe or Rules Pack or Battle of Britain? And 6 Hurricanes and 6 Sea Gladiator for RAF, and 8 Italian Cr.42? We will use quite less of them, but just to be ready to raise the number of partecipants. Thank you. If there are problems, please tell me immediately.

Looks problematic. Hurricanes won't be a problem, but biplanes can be. Most of us do not play them (List of Prague Minis):
    • Gladiator Mk.I (NO): 4×
    • Gladiator Mk.I (GB): 2×
    • Sea Gladiator (GB): 2×
    • Fiat (IT): 4×
    • Fiat (GE): 1×

Thanks so much, it's ok. Maybe I will just bring another couple of Falcos. After reading the file, I gave these numbers since I hoped that your friend Celkem could bring his great collection - he seems to have nearly more than anybody else. Just now I realized that the last column is not to be added to the others, but it's just the total...
I need to take a few lessons of Czech, going beyond pivo and brambora.

You can even try to ask Cartas - they (he and his son) are deeply in WGS.
No problem with Czech. We can start with some most frequented words on our laboratory's testyard... Oh, wait, they'll be consored here!
