Thread: Take that young Harry (Tate)

Default Take that young Harry (Tate)

Last night we decided, as one of our regulars was AWOL, to take a break from learning BSG and return to WW1.

The scenario was a late war photo recon mission played on 3 mats with the combatants being an Re.8 (Fergusson/Fry flown by me) escorted by a Snipe (Barker flown by Mark) versus a Fokker D.VII (Sachenberg flown by Baxter) and an Albatross D.VA (Baumer flown by the app on my iPhone).

The British secretly chose one of the possible ammunition dumps (marked by my numbered clear plastic overlays) and the fun began! Of course the early turns were spent with the British heading for their target whilst keeping the Germans guessing and the German aircraft trying to position themselves so as to cover all eventualities.

Of course with all of this maneuvering it was inevitable that an 'ouch' incident would occur! But it did allow Barker to get in a shot at Baumer who was distracted by his close encounter!

The Re.8 continued to act as a 'Hun magnet' and soon 'found' Sachenberg and again Barker made the most of this collision and got in a shot at the second attacker.

Undaunted, the Re.8 sailed on, crossed the target and had it's 'Kodak' moment unmolested.

From here on it was the 'Get out of Dodge' option for the Re.8 with the Snipe (and the occasional burst from the rear gunner of the Re.8) ultimately taking their toll on the D.VA and the D.VII!

Well done to the Brits. A successful reconnaissance and got rid of the attackers.

    Speaking through a medium ........

Unlucky card draws helped see both Germans off, but the RE8 would have got home regardless. Well done to the Brits and especially the spirited escort who made shooting at the RE8 so expensive. I wish WoG solo was back on Google play then I could load it on my Samsung.

Thank you for the good A.A.R., Wayne. It looked like an exciting game.

Interesting series of photos, at the end the Snipe was doing some spectacular flying, anticipating the Fokker and sticking to it like glue. A well deserved kill.

    I always enjoy AAR's
    Cheers

That many collisions/near collisions calls for a disclaimer:
"No air traffic controllers were harmed in the making of this AAR. We do not speak to the condition of the aircraft involved, however."
