We had a steady flow of participants all day. We had fun, they had fun a good day by all accounts.

Hmmm ..... Great action there and pics but the colour of those Martians????? They look like they were hiding in the wifes underwear draw or have escaped from a seafood restaurant.

I think you have put Ares to shame Neil.
Tripods in action and not a failed packaging problem in sight.

    Do Martians see in colour?

As Mars is red my thinking was why not red!

Ares have nicknamed the tripids after crustaceans so hey why not go with red.

    I like red.

Enough reasons why me thinks. Oh one more...it was the only spray can I had apart from mat black.

For Ł5 a tripod who cares.

    Great AAR, Neil.

This red/pink color is a little bit strange, but agreat result for a scratch buildt tripod.

Absolutely killer all around, Neil!!! The immense size of the tripods makes them extra daunting, too. And I imagine the color and size played well in generating interest from passers-by.

    All the best,
    Matt

Inasmuch as Neil produced them in a reasonable time, you are not wrong there

A great lure to bring in passersby. Looking really good! Do the port with the death-ray LEDs light up?

That was going to be the idea but the 3 batteries made the tripod head very top heavy.

Mars is the red planet so red is appropriate for their war machines.

Red is the color of anger, war, and blood from ancient timess, I know this because my grandson called me ancient. : ) I particularly like how the Martians stand out so threateningly on the game mat.

Don't forget the cool growling and screaming sound generating circuits from the Halloween stores to put in your pumpkins! They are tiny battery powered units. More on these later . . .

I return here at least once a week and I am beginning to regret that we did not just pursue the concept and rules as a product and leave the actual Martians for members to create and make for themselves . . . these are just too cool and readily available!

I’m preparing for our usual Tuesday night shootout - we decided to start getting our heads around the T & T rules. So it was over to Thingiverse to quickly whip up a tripod or 2 on my 3D printer...

This is almost deja vu Dave.
Ares fail to provide the product we require, so we either build our own or have recourse to Shapeways. We buy all we need in vast quantities, and then Ares comes out with what we already have in spades, so we all just buy a token one or two instead of whole units of the things. Who is the loser?

Yes Rob, I think we have been here too often of late, must be our age. . . with the 3D printers coming of age and digital color printing and art for the flatwork, the factory is in peril . . . the end is near . . . no wonder the elves are leaving . . .

My apologies, I omitted the link to Thingiverse for my Martian print - here it is: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:14657

    And some other files:

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3259046 (this will be a 10 hour print!)

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2815079 (not sure how well this one would print though!)

I love the stance of your 3D tripod print, Wayne, and its size looks quite appropriate, too.

The homegrown aspect of this game will always be a vital aspect of moving forward, and I think the best that Ares might be able to do is complement it somehow as things move along. Their cost structure/financing options and ability to react quickly simply aren't the same as the individual gamer's. Especially given the rise/availability/cost of 3D printing, game pieces and accessories will be purchased less frequently from the FLGS or company online and more frequently made 'in house' by the players... That's always the way it has been with scenery and game accessories, but now, I think, we are going to be seeing it more often with primary gaming pieces. Our reliance on Shapeways, not only for non-Ares-produced aircraft, but increasingly for planes Ares 'used to' produce, is a prime example.

    All the best,
    Matt
