I had seen the notice about the Fox 're-imagining' modern version while looking for the BBC show and wasn't really too interested in it. To me, TWOTW needs to be 'older' to work. Just my prejudice, I guess...

Ah, well, I shall continue to search for the BBC version in hopes that it makes it over here.

    All the best,
    Matt

Giving TWOTW a modern setting sounds like a way to be cheap with sets and costumes....

If you want to watch BBC programmes from outside the U.K., it might be possible using the new internet subscription service called Britbox.

I will keep that in mind, David - Britbox is available here on Amazon prime...I have been interested in it, and if they do include it, it will be added impetus to subscribe to something I'm already interested in...

Watched it last night, I found it .... underwhelming... Memsahib's comment was far less polite.

I'm with the Memsahib on this one Dave. Gatling guns? Really?

    Watched it last night.

    MEH.

It was SLOW, so SLOOOOWWWWW...……..slower than a Tripod with two legs off and stuck in a mudhole (and out of power, and unoccupied!).

Lots of shout-at-the-telly moments, but precious little action.

Far too many unexplained cuts to other scenes, which at the end turn out to be future scenes, meaning all we have watched was in totally unnecessary "flashback" - MEH!

Just some production crew trying too hard to be clever. And failing.

Don't think I'll bother with the rest of it...……...

Set around Oct 1904, gatling guns a possibility. Maxims would have been better.

Have to see at least one more to see if it gets better.

This is being offered again on T+E, as of this weekend, so I will be able to see it, having missed it entirely in October. The first episode seems to be very well done, and the period costumes and Earthling technology is scary in retrospect. The arrival of the Martians and the first encounter are nothing like the book, but interesting to see.

I too was disappointed. Hopefully the future episodes will focus more on the Martians.

Reviews seem mainly underwhelming so far...that's a shame! I still hope to find it somewhere here in the States to check out in the relatively near future...

Yeah, second one wasn't a lot better Matt. Memsahib refused to watch it it was that bad.

This could not have come at a better time to boost Ares sales. Maybe we need to include T&T at some of our upcoming shows to raise the game profile?
    Rob.
Andy (Sauerkraut) and myself play tested TnT this week at Entoyment, and some of the lads gamed with him the following afternoon before the evening session where we ran a couple of intense games piloting the Tripods.
Despite earlier protestations of no interest it appears resistance is futile - most left the table intending to buy in !
Didn't have time for pics, maybe next time.

I'm not sure what is going on with the reprise of the series on T&E. The episodes aren't clearly identified on the viewing guide, nor the recordings on my PVR. I have four recordings, with two marked as episode I and II, with two other episodes that are different, but not marked. The two unmarked episodes are the same, but seem to be near the end of the book. However, those unmarked episodes are nothing like the book, and although they cover the information in the book, they are completely re-imagined.

At this point, it seems to me that the series had been produced to keep CGI to a minimum, so those wanting to see the Martians and the machines will be disappointed. That from watching three out-of-sequence episodes.

It's only three episodes so you should have seen all on offer now Mike.
Last time I saw something that sucked that hard on TV it was a Dyson vacuum ad.

Such a shame too. I think we all had high hopes for the series. Mind you, they had set it slightly too early for any aircraft to get involved anyway.

    Today's not bad either - in terms of Martian-cockney it's 'Ulla-dabollocks'

The Final episode is tomorrow at 9 p.m. but judging from the 'flash forwards' in episode two I am not hopeful that it will improve.

Episode 2 was utter crap; Episode 3 was so boring that I lost interest and concentrated on my computer instead...…………….
I only realised it had finished a half hour later!

To quote from a far better TV series "not great, not terrible"

In the UK it has been on just after "His Dark Materials", against which it does not stack up well

Well, we've been watching "His Dark Materials" on HBONow, so maybe there is hope for us here in the States to be eventually disappointed by TWOTW...

Is this the same show that is on EPIX. I just saw episode 3 and I thought it is a good show so far. Just saw what the Martians look like (sort of).

If it's set in modern day UK/EU Bob then no - you're watching the FOX variation. The BBC version is a period piece & was only three episodes (here at least).
