In their excitement, AA Gun No.2 fires again at the green E.III
    “Dummköpfe!”

Luckily their aim is off this tie.
Huebner will definitely be having words with his commander about the AA crews.
He turns his Eindecker around and heads back to base, the sole survivor of today’s battle Over the Trenches.

Well, we made them pay for their victory, that is the only consolation but the price was high for us too and the mission a failure. We can celebrate Huebner's victories though - what a magnificent first outing ! He has earned his pilots badge as well as an Iron Cross 2nd class At this rate he will be an ace in no time.

The British will have replaced a crew by tonight...

Do you want to throw E&E for the Alb crew ? or should that Tally read FT not ET ?!

    Thumbs up

Ye Gods Pete! What a blood (& fire & boom) Bath that was!
Full on & non stop action. A costly victory for the Allies with 2 pilots killed.
At least you got both Balloons so GHQ will be happy.
Your Gunners did a good job & bagged a Hun two seater to boot.

    Just one problem, Baz.
    I fly for der Kaiser.

I flew as the Rookie, Rüdiger, shot down by his own AA!

It was a corker, that's for sure.
Took about 12 hours to play, and most of today to write it up.
    Thanks for the rep.

That was an absolute epic bun fight Pete - balloons aflame - countryside littered with wreckage & scraps of scorched linen, absolutely bloody marvellous. Well done mate.

    Great show Pete.
Bit of a Pyrrhic victory for my Bulldogs though.
Rookie pilots a plenty to fill the pool, but we are loosing planes quicker than we can get replacements up from the Pool.

Excellent AAR Pete, as has been said - what a blood bath!!! Great opening action. The backboards are brill and look a nice height for the photos, I keep having to crop my photos because the backboards are only 9" high.

My heart sank when Rudiger got shot down and by his own AA, pleased he made it out.

Are the flames on the Albatros new? They look very effective as did the archie bursts. Finally the airfield you used for Hubners Tally is that a file on here, I'd quite like to use it for a mission target. I thought I'd seen it somewhere but can't for the life of me see where.

    A big well done.

Great AAR Pete. Good job those AA gunners got one of theirs , makes up for the one we lost .

It was indeed FT not ET, so no E&E

Actually I notice a few speenig mitsakes - probably because I was in a rush so i wouldn't 'time out' while posting.
I wanted to get it all in one post rather than segments.

This was my first go at posting the 'normal' way. I am sure I will pick up some tricks and shortcuts along the way.

Thanks, John. My heart was on my sleeve when I rolled for Rudiger ...

    To answer your questions:

    1) The background is a Walthers one made for model railways. Peter (Teaticket) gave us the details last month - I still have them if you want to get some for yourself.
He indicated his were blistering. I decided to use rubber cement for my first one and it bled through terribly, although it doesn't seem to show up in the photos.
They are nice and tall, with lots of sky. My own attempt at home-made was, as you point out, much shorter and required a lot of cropping in my photos.
I have a second Walthers one that can be joined to this one (although that would make a very long backdrop). I am going to mount it on the back of the other one using double-sided tape.

    2) The flames on the Albatros are the same as the ones you liked in one of my Bitter End AARs. Just pipe cleaner with added paint streaks.
The Archie bursts are Litko with added cotton.

    3) The airfield is in the files somewhere, but I am damned if I can find it now. I even searched the WWII section. It may have come from a member's Album.
I can't find it my my PC either.

Here are links to ones that have the national symbols and an aircraft on them. I used to use these until I found the 'blank' one that I use now.

    Thought as much !
I resize the pics first (700x 525) then write it up in Word, noting where the pics go, cut & paste the result into the thread & add the pics. Usually the last stage takes well under an hour so rarely lose pics now.

Pete thanks for the info, the pipe cleaner flames seem to splay out, maybe it's the angle the photo was taken from, anyway they look good

The airfield file, I thought I'd seen it in a post rather than in the files section, however I've recently acquired Photoshop and I can probably adjust the pics that you linked.
    I'll give it a go.
    Cheers

Bye the way, I do roughly what Dave is doing with the reports and it seems to work ok, if a little time consuming.

Pete the other option is to watch your time & after say 1/2 hour post what you have done.
Then you go back & Edit in ADVANCED Edit & just continue from where you were.
That is how I do mine as I don't like the cut & paste way.

Bit slow on this one Pete, sorry. Not been too well this last week or so That was one hell of a fight. Two Entente crew killed in the first action, and three aircraft lost - ouch. A high price to pay to bring down a couple of balloons. A surviving pilot out for 5 scenarios too. Guess you're going to need some replacements soon.
Your Eagle two seater crew didn't seem to fare any better either , but congratulations to Ltn Till Huebner for his three kills. They'll be celebrating that in the bar still. That's an impressive start for him. We'll have to watch our six carefully in the future, with him about.
Thanks for sharing another excellent AAR with great pics - REP inbound

    Congrats to Leutnant Huebner.

Great work on the report Pete. The flak battery was rather bothersome for both sides!

Huebner's EK.II is well deserved - one needs equal measures of skill and luck to down three enemy in a single mission.

Oh my Pete, all in the air but Hubner kissed the earth! A more violent sky is seldom seen.

Hubner looks like he is soon to be an ace. At least one positive out of a failed mission.
