Thread: Series 1 reprint

It's good to see that there are some new planes coming, I'm quite keen on the balloons that have gone quiet, does anyone know roughly what the price of these were when last issued and what year that was?

£30 - £35 as I recall, and this was before I discovered the game, so 2011/2012?

MvR never flew any Fok.DR.I painted all red with white cross fields. It never happened. That information comes from someone who is ill informed about how MvR's Fokker Triplane were finished. The photos taken of Fok.F.I 102/17 which were finished in the standard Fokker factory streaked olive-brown finish, have misidentified the finish as being red. A lot of published photos have this caption, it is incorrect.

So the first WOW and WOG reprint all red Fokker Dr.I with Eisernes Kreuz are wrong.
The new all red Triplane with BalkanKreuz is the correct scheme.

Yes, you are correct. I was looking for those very images, but did not find them in my time limited search. Good job.

I hope the Baumer DVa is more like the prototype with the wooden fuselage.
I already have three of the original yellow and ordered it to get something different.

I ordered the MvR Dr.1 to get the correct crosses. (Ooops - forgot this one is coming with T&T - oh well)
Passed on the Barker Sopwith as I have several of those, and the Rickenbacker, Fonck and Udet for the same reason.
Kissenberth I have coming with the tripods, and can't see needing two captured Camels.

I have a WoW Kempf but figured I would get this new one, just fer grins.
Will definitely need to touch up some of these it looks like.

Still ... New planes at last!

Thanks Ares! I will be certain to add those planes to my collection/game as soon as they become available!
Wish there were more new schemes, especially since Kissenberth is such an oddball. Only a single new allied scheme for the Camel now in both reissues! Kinda crazy for the most iconic allied fighter to now have the fewest unique allied paintschemes across all releases. I do wish we would have gotten a black Jacobs Dr.1, would have fit in nicely alongside the MvR albatross.

according to ARES upcoming product : https://www.aresgames.eu/upcoming-products

Ares has forgotten to include the Fokker Dr.I in the list but they are informed of that issue and should fix it soon.

Release of SE.5a has been announced for 2019 2nd quarter, with Pfalz D.III, Bréguet XIV, Rumpler C.IV.
    https://m.facebook.com/photo.php?fbi...0892&source=48

Fokker D.VII were released in 2014, with Sopwith Snipe, Roland C.II, Airco DH.4 (WOG fifth serie).

As WOG first serie (Spad XIII, Camel, Albatros D.V, Fokker Dr.I) will be reprinted in a few weeks, there might a few years before a reprint of Fokker D.VII (if there is one).

Balloon Busters was released in 2010, retailing at £40...
I didn't buy any at that time but used the cards from Burning Drachens - I finally picked up a pair for £40 a few years ago.
I wouldn't expect the new release (should it materialise) to be any cheaper.

Right after I got into this game and realized how hard to get some of these thing were, I set a list of wants and went on a mission. I found two balloons from someone here, I wish I could remember who but it was when I first started. They were about double retail but at least I got them. I have space for two more if they ever some out again. Later I got the box set from somewhere, I don't recall where, so i got several of the big cardboard balloon cards which is nice to have.

The game is very nice, but the balloons and giants are always a big attraction.

    No they haven't.

Andrea has mentioned their intent to reprint, but he doesn't work for Ares.

Roberto told us the balloons were to be scheduled for last year (with a separate Nieuport 16 with rockets), but the Tripe-pods got in the way (the rocket planes, and therefore the balloons) were held up to be released after the Tripe-pods, to supplement that game.

No reprint date has ever been "promised".

However, scenarios with balloons are so much fun.

I finally got my order in the other day, after much angst, sturm und drang. Unfortunately, the problem turned otu to be the browser I was using. Payment interface doesn't like chrome, I had to revert to Internet Exploder.

But the important thing is, I *did* get the order in, so all is well in the end.

I only got involved in this game a month ago. But seeing how much fun it is, how limited the availability is for some items and being pointed to the campaign scenarios (thanks, Sam), I’ve pre-ordered all 12 planes. Not to mention another 38 from various sources....I got carried away.

Weil, considering I have over 11,000 painted miniatures for numerous periods from Assyria/Neo-Babylonia to World War II and another 8,000 in the unpainted pile...I do know being 'carried away'.

It seems like the Nieuport 16 will only be available in T&T starter set....rather like the ones in Balloon Busters. Does that make the aliens something akin to balloons with a sting?

That is some serious collecting. Welcome to the Aerodrome and game. Yes collecting some of these are a challenge, but the scenarios do make having a good mix of planes well worth it.

I was going to stop at 10,000...then 11,000...then 12,000...and then I started working on co-authoring a set of 18th century rules with a guy in the UK and found out he had 40,000 figures. So, I figured.... F...it, go all in.

I’ve been on a splurge of painting Spanish Napoleonic figures which was caused by Amazon making an offer I couldn’t refuse - all 7 volumes of Oman’s Peninsular war as e-books for $20 CA. Now I’m into a friendly speed painting contest with someone from down under. Here’s a pic of my most recent.

I promise no more out of period / genre pics. Besides I’m keen to have a go at painting some WWI planes.

    Hmmm...

I have an Invasion and a Second Invasion pledge. And, I already have four Dr.1s and even more Camels. Almost all the Kickstarter planes will be going into the convention prize bin for give-aways.

I have two balloons, but would really like another for those barrage scenarios. Perhaps a few more for double-sided scenarios. Not a few thousand, though.

I have two balloons from someone here. I doubt I could afford any more like that. I would like two more. Like you for either barrage balloons or two on each side. I doubt I'd do a Kickstater, I'd prefer to buy them from a Site or Store.

I have that those too but they're the older Minifigs and these are AB miniatures. Anyway you can see my attraction to painting WWI aircraft - love the colours.

Btw - I did enjoy your DYM: Coming and Going scenario. I did it twice - with it set in 1917 on the Italian-Austrian front. The first time I didn't read the scenario carefully enough and had an escort for the bomber. However, that was the more interesting game (at least for Part 1 - not so much part 2 as both intercepting scouts were shot down in part 1) so that's what I'm intending to write up and post on the general AAR forum.

My Spanish Army is Minifig. (mounted for Napoleon's battles) I still have hundreds to paint!

Glad you had fun with the DYM scenario. Looking forward to your AAR.
All of the OTT scenarios can usually be adapted for different front or periods of the war. There are loads to pick from. I missed the first OTT campaigns and hope to play them out someday.

I just checked my T&T pledge so now I can put in an order for the reprints of series 1 I won't be getting with it.

Well my AAR won’t be as elaborate as the ones I’ve seen on the campaign forum. You guys go all out! I’m intending to do the AAR as a letter home...thinking that’s somewhat original then I see it’s been done and in German too. Oh well, I’m sticking to my plan.

I didn’t get involved soon enough to be part of the Kickstarter but I’ve ordered all 12 reprints as none of these aircraft were available and they’re all good ones to have. I will order the T&T as well as I want the N16 and aliens make a good scenario in lieu of balloons.

Es tut mir nur ein bisschen leid.

No reason you can't also adopt that format-plenty of people have adopted the "informal report to higher HQ" format, or the "briefing/debriefing" format. It's all good.

On another thread there has been discussion about the Nieuport 16s and whether they will just be available in T&T sets.

Having looked at the Airplane Packs pages for WGF both the Navarre Nieuport 16 and one for Albert Ball are listed. From my reading that suggests they will be separate airplane packs and not just in T&T. There is an asterisked comment that says Navarre would only be in T&T not in an airplane pack but if that's the case why list it under airplane packs? As far as Ball goes it seems it will definitely be an airplane pack.

No details of when though. But once T&T is released surely would follow shortly?
