Have an order coming from Dave (AIM) and he mentioned that he has the Sterling bomber ready. Just want to let you all know if anyone is interested.

Thanks for the info Bob. I'll have to put together an AIM order, now with a Stirling or two!
Sod! I promised myself not to get any more AIM stuff until I had painted all the ones I already have (should be done by 2024 ). However, for this (and a few P51Ds) I will make the exception.
Thanks for the info Bob. Did Dave say if there was anything else imminent?.
Run for your life - there are stupid people everywhere!
I have some 20-ish unpainted planes. But, getting new ones is always so tempting...
Only 20?

I wouldn't dare count my unpainted AIM and Shapeways.
I know what you guys mean. I have a few to paint( maybe 20) but did finish some today along with 4 Shapeways. I have to tidy them up to I get pics up tomorrow, I hope. The price was $14.00 for one.
Just back in here and Dave is working on a B-17G. Said there was a slight problem and he has to clean it up.
The Short Sterling is one of my favorite British bombers - I will have to get a couple to go along with my Lancasters...
Thanks for the news, Bob!
All the best,
Matt
Dave will be working on the Halifax once he has fettled the B17G.
Run for your life - there are stupid people everywhere!
And then I will need to get a couple of Halifaxes, too, Steve! Thanks for the news about those...
All the best,
Matt
Here's a first look at the big beastie. It's a Stirling III by the look of it. The P51D in the last pic is to give an idea of the size of the thing:

Man, Steve, that is a beastie and a half, isn't it? It will look marvelous once you've finished it
All the best,
Matt
My cousin flew in Stirling I's during the war & was lost 23rd Jan '43 in Stirling I R9248 AA.H following a raid on Lorient. After dropping the bombs they were shot down by flak, and crashed at St-Thegonnec about 11 km south east of Morlaix. Only the pilot survived, and evaded capture. The rest of the crew are buried in Thegonnec Communal Cemetery.

Morlaix is about an hour from me ,Lorient 30 mins. Lots of airmen were hidden by the locals round here. Our Canton /local district was on the return flight path.
Costly for one hamlet a couple of kms from our house when the Germans shot 11 of the inhabitants for "aiding the enemy"
I'm learning to fly, but I ain't got wings
Coming down is the hardest thing
Dave, I presume you are aware of this monument to R9248 at Saint-Thégonnec Loc-Eguiner?

No I wasn't Steve, thanks for that. I only knew of the grave site at the communal cemetery.
Peter is in the fourth grave along. He was 19 years old when he died. He's listed as a gunner but in the pilot's notes on the incident he's referred to as the bomb aimer.
Though my dad was his uncle he was only 3 or 4 years older than him (dad was youngest of 12) and apparently they got on well. Peter's dad was responsible for both of them having the middle name of Douglas due to his love of the make of motorbike with the same name.
Crew of Stirling I R9248 AA.H:
Sgt Kidd, Robert Miln Captain NZ412700 - Made it back to fight again.
Sgt Schofield, James William W. Nav 1088089 - KIA
Sgt Mitchell, Gilbert Frank F/Eng 1479975 - KIA
Sgt Berry, Eris W/Op 1380078 - KIA
Sgt Torrance, Bernard. A/B 1319178 - KIA
Sgt Brewster, James Edward M/U/Gnr 1035972 - KIA
Sgt Fowler, Peter Douglas R/Gnr 1320278 - KIA
Remember them.

Remembering indeed. Would be interesting and good to honor them all with a thread of monument photos with details? Just thinking . . .
