Which modellmaker's is that fine workmanship?
Its a Shapeways model Rob, by Columbia Aerodrome, if you are referring to the Gotha Dom's decals and Vallejo paints. And darn it, I just noticed I need to add two more crosses to the tail fins.

    Thanks for that info Mike.
    I will look into that.
Guess your Gotha was scrambled whilst the painters were still at work on it.

Yesterday I received my correct order from TopSide Minis of their WWI ships from the Coronel/Falklands sea battles. It's snowing outside and this should keep me busy for an hour or two. They ships are printed at 1/1800, but I scanned them and may later print individual ships at 1/700 or 1/600 scale to be used in Neil's Air to Ship combat rules.

I also ordered from their WW2 RN line three V class destroyers and one W class destroyer. I checked first that the ships I ordered were completed before the end of the Great War. I can use them (one at a time) as escorts for a freighter convoy, once I actually paint my freighters.
So how many books are in your personal library?

Finished a few planes yesterday. Here are my PZL P11's from Shapeways with MISCMINI decals. Nothing special just something different. They are 113 ESK.

I looked to see what color to paint them and saw different shades of green and one site mentioned different shades of Khaki. I painted these FoW khaki gray. Again a different AF to go along with my Finns, Dutch and Chinese.

Now I also did 2 PZL P-11's for the 121 ESK.

Painted these FoW Russian green and again MISCMINI decals. I did make a mistake with the decals and I am sure some of you will see what it is.

No pics, but I finished the ships in the Cruel Seas starter box; 6 RN Vospers and 4 German S-boats.
Ran a game yesterday at the first 2019 NOWScon in Beria. Everyone had a great time with it.
Also came across a couple posts David Manley put on his blog about the game. Good stuff that.

We had a couple of games of Cruel Seas in at the Hobby store a few weeks back. Fun game...Now if only Warlords would replace the missing parts from EVERY box sold. And do it in less then a month or two. I am still waiting after contacting them 5 weeks ago about missing parts and the same with my hobby store. Last notice we got was a form letter about being busy a week or so before Christmas. Nothing since then for either of us. Sad thing is what was missing made the game unplayable mostly. Jager was generous enough to help out so I could sort of play but still VERY upset with Warlords for lack of QC, Replacement, or even just feedback on what the frack are they doing about it. Getting right up there with the failed Martian landing we are 6 months overdue for....sigh...must be a bit grumpy today.

I looked at a few blogs today about Cruel Seas. They almost all said it looked like the product was very rushed for a Christmas release, and the rule book was badly proofread and (not) edited.
I found that out as I accidentally used a suggested HR by David Manley for turning, by not looking at the (10 page) errata before running the game.

I was just on the Warlord site looking at Cruel Seas. Those ship are a bit expensive. Game looks good though.

  14. #64

Game is great, the ships are outstanding, and it is a fresh view of that conflict. They just rushed it and screwed up trying to get it out in time for Christmas. I fully suspect if they learn form this and settle down the 2nd ed will be awesome. Ships ARE very expensive though, suspect Shapeways will be getting a new line soon. Best thing they could do would be to release the ship cards as a PDF, and get more plastics out. Then a few months down the road have a article in the magazine with the rules adjustments printed in it.

More excellent Napoleonics Ken - myself, I've never managed to paint large numbers of figures, quickly, to that kind of standard. Nice

Great new additions to your fleet Bob.

Sweet Nappys Ken. I'm almost done with a set of AB British light troops. Should be done in a day or so. My collection is mostly old Minifigs and Old Glory but the ABs (Anthony Barton) are by far the best figures. I find it hard now to not paint new planes so doing some Nappys is a nice break.

  17. #67

Have to agree on Nappys being a nice break. Commissions have dried up right now so for the first time in over a year have some me time. Will concentrate on cleaning up my small British army this week and maybe throw together another Bolt action Soviet army for E-bay fodder. Need to see if they have taxed it to death yet with the new adjustments.

Cruel Seas situation sounds like a nightmare, both for consumers and the company. Hope Warlord gets it squared away and does right by their customers.

Painting fast is not a skill with which I was blessed, nor have I developed it. Currently slogging through my first Shapeways kites... struts are a pain in the butt!

Chris, Painting takes practice and concentration (and good eyesight, and good hand skills, and lock the cats in another room, and....and....and....) Some of us have been practicing for 50 years or more and just now consider ourselves OK at it. Give it time and keep slogging at it..

Well...I am still a youngun at just under 60...and did not start painting till I was at least 8. AHh...matchbox tanks (came in a package shaped like a big matchbook), Airfix plastic soldiers, green army men from the dime store....then I discovered Avalon Hill games at 12 and it went downhill from there.

Stay away from the French Paul Schmitt 7, then. That plane has 4 half struts and 24 full struts, alternating between metal and wood on each row!

I have an order from AIM that should be here tomorrow. So another 10 planes to paint and again something different. Thanks for the Reps guys.

Well my planes from AIM (Dave) came today so now can proceed with my project. I already primed them so I can work on them this week. That will be the 1st 5 then I have another 5 to work on.

Uh oh, those blueberry lemon scones look sooo tempting. Ah well, more happy belly on the way then

My next offering is a 1916 LVG CII by Daryl, otherwise known as Reduced Aircraft Factory (of course you all know him ). This one has the Merc, port side engine and Daryl has also produced the Benz, starboard side, engined model, both available from Shapeways, this model in WNV plastic. Paints are by Vallejo with the main colour being Light Grey Blue. Decals are from Oberst Hajj here on the Aerodrome store (the red "2"s are hand painted). Colour scheme taken from Windsock Datafile 106, "The LVG C.II" by P M Grosz.

Well done, you fellows, on your January projects. There is a great range of materials, and fabulous workmanship.
I have only had one go at painting some Shapeways planes and found that my eyes are not as clear and sharp and my hand not as steady as they used to be. Therefore I am unlikely to feature in a monthly workbench.
    Thanks for sharing your work.
