    Default Question about Planes

If you are trying to get started with WW1 WoG, how many planes should you have to start with?

Just 2 planes will get you started. A duel pack has all you need.

Why, all of them, of course.

Seriously, though... a half-dozen or so scouts and a few two-seaters would probably serve as a good starting point and provide some variety. Availability might be a limiting factor at the moment, however. Keith has a good variety of both types in the Aerodrome Store (https://www.aerodromeaccessories.com...ry/world-war-i) and you can still find others here and there for reasonable prices.

The Duel Pack currently in stock (Albatros D.Va and SPAD XIII) provides an excellent entry point as it includes two aircraft and maneuver decks, simplified rules, an "A" damage deck, and a ruler or two. Here's a link: https://www.aerodromeaccessories.com...-and-spad-xiii

However many you end up purchasing as you dip your feet into WWI, I would suggest trying to collect contemporary equipment... early-war (1915-1916), mid-war (1917-1918), and late-war (1918) are good general guidelines. There's obviously some overlap... but the early war kites are dramatically out-classed by the late war craft.

It depends on how many players you have available. I’d say a minimum of two fighters per side if only because one-on-one duels just aren’t as interesting. A two seater or two per side to give variation and mission variation. Six to eight planes. For example, a nice mid 1917 Britain mix would be a couple of Camels, an RE8 two seater for observation or light bombing, and maybe a Bristol F2b two seat fighter which can be used to escort the RE8 or do the observing itself. Germans could go with a couple of Triplanes, a Halberstadt CL.II as a more agressive two seater, and maybe a Roland C.II or stretching the time frame a bit Albatros C.III. Anyway, that would give you up to four planes per side, and a two plane mix of one seaters, two seaters, or half and half, that could cover a lot of mission types. Build from there as the desire strikes you.

I'll echo that all you need is a duel pack to get started. I personally would add a two-seater and a second fighter/scout from the opposite sides to add some variety. One on one dog fights can get boring pretty quick. Those two extra planes go a long ways in extending the game. You'd need to get an A firing two-seater, as right now you can't get a B damage deck

I agree with Keith above. One on one fights end fairly quick and we find them quite boring. Four plus planes is a very good start. Two one seaters for one side, and on the other a one seater and a two seater.

A lot of fun can be had with trying to get the two seater from one side of the map to the other and back. From there add a few objectives, bombing a bridge, photographing a trench, whatever. Then you'll quickly know if you want to grow your collection. Be warned. I told my wife I was going to get about a dozen planes for variety of play. Oops.

I see the basic rules pack which has the b decks on Amazon, eBay, and Minature Market. Maybe that is drying up at the distributor level, but they can still be had for less than list price. The thing I’m not seeing is the Fokker Triplane vs. Sopwith Camel Duel Pack, which will hopefully reappear shortly along with the full gamut of Wave 1.

Thanks for the advice! I'm going to try to get some of those planes for Christmas.

We now have a dual pack and three other aircraft, but none of them two seaters. But...This happened on Christmas
