Love the wine, cheese and meat assortment but this is more what I was used to.

TP is toilet paper. That was something special rather then a newspaper.
I was thinking of the stuff with the MREs. It was called John Wayne TP beause it was rough, tough didn’t take crap from anybody...

I remember one wag put a sign up in our heads at Navy boot camp that read "flush twice, it is a long way to the mess". Actually I could never complain about the food. It was generally very good and there was a lot of it.
Ah, Bob - those little OD cans...Somehow, I think that Harrod's extravaganza would be more satisfying...not as convenient to carry along, mind you, but...

You can't beat good old biscuits AB, cornbeef and baked beans hash...with a dash of curry powder of course. I found dock leaves to be most efficient when doing morning ablutions. Wiping ones backside with greaseproof paper was just not practical, especially in the cold!

Matt I carry my P-38 on my key ring and have had it since 71.The other important thing we carried was a church key. They didn't have poptops back then. The P38 is almost like a multi tool and of course very useful when no one has a can opener. The other thing with C Rats was I could trade the cigarettes and fruit salad (UCK) for other things (peaches).
No wonder the RFC was popular!

ive got several ww2 p38s that the guys carried on their dog tag chains. plus a couple later ones here and there.
Phillip I don't think they changed much from WWII until I got mine in Viet Nam.
Matt I was in the commissary today and ran into an old ASA crypie. He mentioned Gen Flynn, old ASA CDR.
Joe we had these candy bars, actually round to fit in a can, and we called them John Wayne bars. They were like a Nestle's crunch bar and pretty good.
i guess the only real difference is the length of the fluting on the body. full length for ww2. 3/4 for korean era, 1/2 for vietnam and later. a larger version was issued after that. if i remember correctly theyre one of the longest issued items that remained more or less unchanged. its a tribute to their utility!
The one I have is 1 1/2" . When I was in AIT on payday we had C-Rats for chow in the mess hall. All you had to do if you had KP was open cans rather then the normal KP duties. But at least we had real can openers rather then the p38.
