Thread: Battlestar Galactica

    Default Battlestar Galactica

I have been a fan of Battlestar Galactica since the original television series began in 1978, I loved the fact to cut costs, the Galactica collar tab was a real American Army Insignia, issue to the "Intelligence and Security branch"

So I can't wait for the release of the new Ares Games "Battlestar Galactica", and I didn't I have been playing my version of the game for years

Mine is not a very sophisticated version of the game, I made cardboard counters for the small fighters (Viper's etc...) with models for larger spaceships, with a simple almost Naval set of rules in a "2D" environment, so I'm looking forward to replacing my game with something worth playing, I'm going to bet Aerodrome will offer a set of new medals to the members who play the game, so I made up a set for consideration, and discussion.

Why not post your own Battlestar Galactica medals?

You'll be sad to hear that Herr Oberst has already vetoed a BSG sub-forum as it's not a Wings based game so medals are unlikely Drew.

No this one of three KONAMI "Battlestar Galactica" spaceships, Galactica, Atlantia, and Pegasus from Japan, EBay has the cheap one for sale, for just over £50, after that they get expensive!!!!!

Oh I find more wings on a Colonial Viper than on H.M.S. Royal Sovereign, yet we have medals for that game!!!

We have a whole separate forum for that game - the medals were awarded for contributions toward setting it up.

    David,
It may have its origins in Wings of War, but it isn't an Earth-based game of historical aviation combat.

BSG uses "multi-facetted randomization devices" for combat, not cards!

It will need it's own site, like the Anchorage, if anything.

If remember well, Keith wants to have the forum in WWI style or at least in aviation look (may be this is why we have a post-war subforum [not quite often used I must say - jut compare numbers of posts]). But as you probably know, SoG as a napoleonical ship games has a different site and I feel this is the right way. Sometimes I disagree with some rules, but this time I am on the same board as a Keith is. He is not an evil administrator, he wants to have a forum in one symbolic framework. And I am in.

BSG has nothing to link it with historical. Even Tripods has that. Personally I do not want to see spaceship and tripod avatars or other like decorations on this site.

Ah, I misread it as keith wasn't thinking of setting up a BSG forum rather than an adjunct of this site. That said, licencing issues may limit his ability to do that

5-color lozenge might look pretty nifty on a Cylon raider... That sort of paint scheme might induce me to take the BSG plunge

    All the best,

Actually, the camo is three-color Night Bomber, not five. However, for this application, I thought it suited better.

Temptation, Mike. When Matt shows up with "German" Cylons and "American" Colonial Vipers at Origins, we'l know where to look.

I haven't paid attention to the models that much...are they making the classic 1st series-style Cylon 'frisbee' shape or just this much more sinister -looking one (which I assume is from the rebooted series...)?

3-color night camo does look good, I must admit...

Let's face it. Everyone on this site is an Enabler. We are mutually-supportive addicts.

And the fact that I'll probably do custom cards for BSG is not a reason to blame me for other hobbyists' ideas. I just do my best to make the entire package look its best.

So, don't look at me if people have outrageous ideas. Do I get blamed for the things Dave [clipper1801] does? He starts stuff all on his own.

I do have a lot of fun trying to keep up with him, though.

Like Daniel said, No problem with the Andrea using whatever he wants.

I guess the question could be: Is this a site for general historical aviation gaming with a recognized focus on the Ares product lines or is this a site for Ares miniature games?

This is me trying out texturing shapes, and I used the same night bomber 3 color lozenge pattern as above. Different picture, though...

Just saw that from Ares on my FB feed this morning, Zoe - our local game store (which already has X-Wing in good measure) isn't sure but will likely carry it... Seeing the beastie in the flesh will be a good thing.

The original series of Battlestar Galactica starring Lorne Green, Richard Hatch and Dirk Benedict is currently being shown on the Forces TV channel (High Definition Freeview channel 96), if anyone is interested.

They are also showing the air combat series 'Dogfight'.

Scar, Colonial pilots' collective nightmare, and Starbuck's nemesis. Good at ambushes and hit-and-run tactics, encountered in an asteriod field where the Colonial fleet was attempting to refuel. Well above average piloting and shooting skills.

Talents could include: Resilient (ignore the effects of the first wound); Patchwork (Ignore one engine or control systems hit); Marksman (Draw extra damage chit if the first draw was a '0'); Lethal (A '+' triggers an additional damage draw, up to four times. IE: up to five total damage chits in one shot!); and Evasion (Subtract one pip from each die rolled by an opponent).
