This medal has been awarded to Colonel Skafloc and Major Hedeby for their unstinting efforts throughout four years of warfare to produce the many editions of the Sniper's Times news sheet through thick and thin, without fail, up to the very hour of the Armistice.
There are only 19 other recipients of this award in the history of the Drome.

    F.O. Kyte. (Wing Commander).

The effort level to achieve this honour is tremendous. The "Sniper's Times" was an awesome project.

Congrats to both Niel and Chris for a job done beyond expectations!

Does the medal come with a stipend?

Could not run to that Mike, I'm afraid just a safety pin will have to do.

Superb work! The amount of work put into each day's entry is impressive to me -- to add it up over the 4+ years is just astounding.

Could we please include Rob in all the thanks as he too was a major editor who covered much of 1914 1915 and 1916.

To Mike for standing in at short notice when none of the regular editors were available.

To the many cub reporters for adding those important snippets of information to enhance editions.

And to the faithful readers without whom the thread would not be the success it is.

Thanks for the kind thoughts chaps.
In that case I'd rather have a G&t than an accolade Dave. I find Accolades too sweet to get down in one swallow.

Know the feeling Neil. after I retired I woke up each morning thinking I was late for school after 40 years.
It took months to wear off.

As many of you will already be aware, after almost a decade of service Squadron Leader Dave (Flash) is retiring from his position as Commanding officer South of England. I have spoken of his service elsewhere, but must just make mention of his other work which is also unsung save by the few who take part in the Solo Campaigns. Dave has run the backbreaking side of these since their inception, and will continue to do so in the role of Uncle for at least this year. Compiling the format and arranging for the authors of each mission, plus keeping the books straight, and giving advice and summaries of each AAR takes a deal of time and effort. I am very aware that this is yet another of the tasks undertaken on the Drome by the host of unsung heroes who keep the whole forum running.

Therefore, it gives me great pleasure, after consultation with the Herr Oberst too confirm the award of " The Special Ops Medal" to Dave. Squadron Leader Flash.

Postings to new stations in the military are usually promotions. However, I can also understand postings to less stressful positions, too. Dave [Flash] has been a very big part of the Aerodrome for as long as I have been here, and, it appears, doing much more behind the scenes than I knew. Nice to know just how much more, and see it recognized.

Now, about the wellies? Not sure of the reference, but if I guess correctly, may I suggest hip, or even, chest-waders?

Congratulations Dave, there seems to be some idea you are retiring, from what I see of your posts on the site I would be suprised if your contributions are less in the future than they have been in the past.
    Well done and well deserved.

    Well done all!
