OK chaps, now that PragueCon has delivered another excellent weekend of gaming the Game Slots are now open for bidding for 2019.

Rob has kindly offered to take the first slot. (Could you please confirm which slot and what type of game please Rob?).

Games will be run and pointed along the same lines as 2018. Points make prizes, well especially for the Ace of Aces. If anyone wishes a copy of the games notes for organisers they can be found here:

[B]Doncaster 2019 Wings & Sails Games Organiser notes:

    Pre-Game:

    A. Write out a brief description of your game, expected run time, period and its aim. (Please include any in house special rules you may be considering to use).
    B. Send to skafloc either by PM or to skafloc300@gmail.com.
    C. Once confirmed go ahead and plan out your game.
    D. Once allocated a time slot ensure you can run the game and complete its aim within the time allowed.
    E. If it does not, amend your game accordingly.
    F. Games will not overrun.
    G. Ensure you have ALL the correct equipment, planes, scenery for your game; if not it is your responsibility to source this from another person or person prior to attending, always ensuring this is not being used in another game.
    H. If you are unable to set up on Friday night for game 1 on Saturday then you will be allocated a later slot.

    Game Day:

    A. Your game will last 2.5 hours.
    B. You will ensure that your equipment is on the set up table prior to your allotted set up time. (Each table will have a clearing table and a set up table)
    C. Saturday 1st games and Sunday Ace of Aces game will be set up the previous night.
    D. You should allocate a maximum of 15/20 minutes within which to set up your game.
    E. Your game needs to be set up and ready to run at the appointed time.
    F. It will have at least 6 players to a maximum of 12 (should we get the numbers attending).
    G. Within that time your game brief should be no longer than 10 minutes and must include any special in house rules you have included. (See note at end).
    H. Within that time your game debrief should be no longer than 10 minutes and does not have to include who got what points. Just a brief conclusion.
    I. Within the game structure the following will be adhered to:

    · No more than 1 Ace card per side.
    · The game must have a definite aim:

o Ie Shoot down the bomber(s).
    o Destroy the bridge.
o Shoot down the enemy aircraft.
    o Sink the ship.
    o Win the race.
    o Etc.

Within the game points will be awarded as follows:
+2 Shooting down an enemy aircraft with no assistance that move from another player.
+1 Assist in shooting down an enemy aircraft that turn with other friendly aircraft.
+2 Sinking or Capturing an enemy ship with no assistance that move from another player.
+1 Assist in Sinking or Capturing an enemy ship.

Bonus points may be awarded as follows:
    [/B?
+1 Shooting down an enemy Ace.
    +1 On the winning team.
+1 Achieving the game aim, ie sink, blow up, shoot down something specific.

Negative points will be awarded for the following:

-1 For each aircraft above 1 the individual is flying (Except umpire controlled)
-1 For each re-spawn (if allowed)

    ·
A score sheet for each game will be issued for use and must be filled in and handed back at the end of your game.

    · However you score your game competition points will be awarded as follows:

    1st place 8 pts
    2nd place 7 pts

    · etc...if there are more than 8 players ie 10 players then, still 8 7, 6 etc. 9th and 10th will get 1 point each.

    · Less than 8 players...it's still 8 for 1st place etc.

    · That way the scoring is the same no matter what game you play in and the playing field is level for all.

    · Those running games will be awarded an average score from the competition points ( 8 players = 5 points) to compensate running a game but allowing them to compete in the various competitions.

    J. You will have 30 minutes to clear your table and 30 minutes within which to pack up your game.
    K. Each table will have 2 side tables: 1 for the clearing player to move his equipment onto and the 2nd for the next game player to have his equipment ready to be set up for the following game.
    L. It is the responsibility of the next organiser to ensure his required equipment is at the set up table prior to his set up time.
    M. Players leaving a game should assist in moving equipment, gaming mats off tables so it is clear for the next player to set up.

    In house special rules:

    N. If these are lengthy or complicated then once the game slots fill up why not post out to these players your special rules prior to the weekend to save time. You could also include a brief of the game.

44 players total, that means roughly 15 by each table. Teams of 7-8 pilots per side. These are big numbers to control. Discipline, timing and order - these virtues will be required from all. Especially in the mornings.

Having Play Tested this scenario I have found that it does not work so please disregard the following and keep a look-out for a revised one to follow soon. Currently on my 4th re-write.
I am trying to keep it simple but that is proving harder than expected. Scenario fo Protect the Balloonr.doc

Scenario for ---Protect the Balloon Table One Saturday 0930-1200

A British Observation Balloon has been deployed some 500 yards behind the British front line and its task is to photograph the German defences in the immediate area prior to an upcoming British offensive.

A mixes squadron of Sopwith Snipes and Sopwith Camels has been ordered to protect the Balloon at all costs and to drive off and/or destroy any enemy aircraft attempting to interfere with the Balloon mission.

The Germans will send in a number of Fokker D.VII,s aided by a number of Albatross D,5a,s and attempt to shoot down the Balloon or at the very least cause it to be taken down by the British for its own protection.

The Balloon site is surrounded by a number of anti-aircraft defences.

Both sides will have a limited time on site and will have to send half of its force off to rearm and re-fuel every 4 moves (12 manoeuvre cards). They will remain off board for one full move and will then draw an A damage card to return to the air. Zeros, ones and twos are OK but any other result means a technical problem causes one extra move delay before take off.
If the number of aircraft is odd then half will be rounded up to the next whole number.

Generally it is thought that the German force will start the game with at least one aircraft advantage to offset the British AA contingent.

The GM will keep track of moves and will advise each side when to go and re-arm and will supervise the damage card draw.

OK, as Reg has started touting for trade, I'll set out my stall as well

    Table 2 WGS Saturday 9.30 - 12

The Last Hurrah of the Golden Pheasants – taking liberties with history

    Background
German forces occupied most of Northern Italy when Italy surrendered to the allies. In May of 1945 defeat was looming for the Germans, and Herman Goering decided to put his retirement plan into operation. Along with a number of high-ranking officers he stashed his hoard of 'borrowed' artwork and as much of the Reichsbank’s gold as he could lay his hands on in a fleet of aircraft, and flew to Malpensa airfield with Himmler, Goebbels and Bormann, ostensibly to review the German troops holding the area around Milan and meet with Generalfeldmarschall Albert Kesselring. In reality Goering was planning an escape to Switzerland.

With the American 1st Armored Division advancing on Milan the so-called “Golden Pheasants” of the Nazi Party decided it was time to put Goering’s plan into motion. Commandeering a fighter escort from whatever units were still available at Malpensa, they took off through the Alps heading for Bern. However the allies had caught wind of the plan through Enigma intercepts and resistance agents around Milan. The Swiss were secretly informed and it was suggested that it would be ‘unfortunate’ for them if this was allowed to happen, as once Germany was defeated the allied armies might just accidentally keep rolling across the border. The Swiss military duly scraped together everything they could at Dubendorf airfield and scrambled for the Alps.

    The game
The Germans are attempting to cross the Alps into Switzerland. Their transports are heavily loaded and can barely manage to gain sufficient altitude to fly between the mountain peaks (Think BSG with asteroids). Their fleet consists of FW Condors and Junkers 52s escorted by FW 190Ds and FW Ta152s. Each transport contains a different load of different value – either gold, paintings or a ‘Golden Pheasant’. The value of each load will count towards victory conditions – if a transport gets through the Germans claim the points; if it is shot down the Swiss get the points. Each aircraft shot down counts towards an individual player’s score to determine the top pilot.

The Swiss have scrambled to intercept with Me 109Gs, Morane Saulnier MS412s, Macchi C202s and the odd Potez 630, also several P51 Mustangs that have been interned and used for evaluation testing. The plan is to shoot down the German aircraft in the Alps so there is no immediate evidence of an overtly hostile attack by a neutral nation (“nothing to do with us Guv, they must have all crashed into the mountains”).

Historical note on the Swiss side
The Swiss did have numbers of Morane 412s, an improved version of the MS406 which they continued building (as the D-3801) after their source of MS406s dried up when France fell in 1940. They were still soldiering on in 1945 despite being obsolete, and their slower airspeed may be an advantage in among the mountain tops. They also had one Potez 630, and later a few 632s.

They gained 20 Me109Gs from the Germans by agreeing to destroy a Me110 night-fighter before the secrets of its radar apparatus became known to the allies. The Swiss had also ordered Macchi C202s but none were delivered as the Italians suddenly found an urgent need for them. They also had a number of P51s that either ran out of fuel or crash-landed and the pilots interned. None were put into service during the war.
Run for your life - there are stupid people everywhere!
