Thread: Vapnartak 2019

  1. #1

    Default Vapnartak 2019

I have been contacted by the organisers of Vapnartak informing me that it will be on the 3rd Of February next year.

They are looking to put more small participation games on in the mezzanine area, hoping for participation games on a 6’x4’ area.

I am planning on putting on a cut down “Death Race 1945”, following up on some feedback from DonCon18.

I presume Skafloc will be up for organising the WGF table, but is there any interest in someone doing a quick play SoG table?

If I could have the rough outline for any games and a list of volunteers for this event by the end of the week (13th), then I’ll forward a joint submission.

Thanks Simon I will check my diary. It often clashes with our Regimental AGM.

Neil and I will cover the other two tables - definitely a WW1 table and we have a few ideas for doing something different on the 3rd table...

OK. The plan is to do WW1 with a difference. A Zeppelin (of sorts) will make an appearance, hopefully a nice ship and something that might have 3 or more appendages. Oh and all over water! (Well a blue cloth!)

So if you want to have a laugh, Vapnartak is the place to be.

    Hi Neil
    Do you want my sea mat? 4ft x 8ft size, comes complete with a 1ft x 5ft
    beach strip if required..
I presume you are supplying relevant aircraft!

I might be able to make it, but not for SAILS and not for stuff with three legs.

You obviously need a new buzz phrase Tim! How about "No Tri-Sails"?

As far as I am aware, Simon (Strangely Brown) will be running his Death Race 1945 game.

Chris and I are putting on an alternative ending to WW1 game; that will involve a Zeppelin Carrier and things with 3 appendages. A ship may be involved but it definitely will NOT have any SAILS. Oh and guided missiles to boot too.

We’ve been cleared for operations at this year’s Vapnartak.

I’ll be there from 0830 to secure the drop zones - will confirm if it’s our usual spot once I see their plan.

Looking forward to seeing the WGF game...

Just got to finish the thingy with 3 legs, do the deck for the zeppelin, well it's done but some things to go on it. Do a base for the three legged thingy, get some Kettering bugs, play test the f'n rules if I have time, and I might get a 2nd 3 legged thingy done too, or a 3rd.

Do I have time.......whens the show again?

Simply a darkish Blue slightly shiny sheet approx 9 ft long by 4 ft wide. As stated iI also have a coastal strip 1 ft wide. x 5 ft long. Don't have a current picture or any pic at all really.

Will it fold down to 6x4? Flat or ok to hang over table edges?

Overhang would not be a problem. Would prefer not to fold!

Might need more land, will have to have a think and perhaps amend the layout. Bring it along anyway Reg and we'll see it better laid out at York and can make a decision then, if that's ok?

Another option, I do have a 'Kent Countryside' mat which is 8 ft x 5 ft (which is where the 5 ft coastal strip is for) but it is quite heavy so would need some help if I bring the two mats.

    Hi Neil Reg and Chris
I'm hoping to make it to Vapnartak on Sunday, if I do can I be of any help to you, or are you all sorted? Either way if I make it I'll drop round and say hello.

I'm still a relative newcomer to the game so don't know that I could be too much of a guiding hand for any aspiring pilots but maybe give you a break to get round the show yourselves.
    Cheers

I have received conformation from the organisers that we have our usual spot on the 2nd mezzanine (right hand side).

I will endeavour to get there at doors open to secure the landing zone (and some extra seats).

Looking forward to seeing you all.

Not me that's for sure, I'm strictly a Biggles man and I don't recollect there being any Tripods across the lines from 266 squadron. Tripe hounds - yes, Tri Pods - no.

Still been snowing today and I'm a bit worried I'm not going to make it, this will be the 2nd time in 3 years. Eh mustn't grumble.

Hopefully will be OK, I'm looking forward to meeting up.
    Cheers

Great action shots, Simon - nice to see the crowd at the WGF table Neil and Chris seem to have things in hand...

Your Air Race of Death game seems to be going well - have you published your rules for this on the Forum somewhere? I likely missed them, if you did...it looks like it would be a fun game to run...

Final score... 4 Tripods downed for the loss of one aircraft ( oh and a large chunk of Paris....)
Neil’s Martian invaders certainly kept the crowds coming in... pretty busy all day.
Looking at what we can do with some Tesla Towers in future games....

Nice to play something a little bit different... lots of fun had by one and all
