Default What's On Your October Workbench?

First time ever posting on this kind of thread, never mind starting the month.
Been putzing with these for a couple of months off and on, but pretty much finished with them now.

Excellent! The elves applaud you! It appears the future of our game is in the hands of the modelers . . .

Nice job Pete you appear to have achieved a good smooth finish on the Wings and tail plane. Did you use the white strong material, can't remember it's name but it's the cheapest option and did you do anything specific to achieve this smooth finish?
I know various magic formulas are used by different people but most of the shapeways planes seem to have an appallingly pitted finish from the manufacturer.

Yes it is the White Strong Flexible material. (now called White Natural Versatile)
I put on about 6 coats of Pledge floor polish. It used to be called Future.
Then 3 or 4 coats of primer.
The paint is Valejo brushed on. 2 or 3 coats.
Glad you like it. It’s been over 35 years since I painted any kind of model so I am just a bit rusty.

Lovely job Pete - might this, by any chance, be in preparation for the early wars campaign, hopefully starting in January or soon after?

I believe they are Fe.2s; Not sure there are Dh-1s on Shapeways.

The BE2s are superb Pete. Back in the days before Shapeways I built a metal kit one, but it was too much work in those days to do a flight of three. They look really good in that group.

Nice planes Pete. A bit too clean for me though as I dust everything to give it the used look. All those washes did a good job sealing things but may have washed out a fair bit of detail. Still outstanding though.

Well I continue to produce the finest planes available for the Czar. I'm almost done done with those state of the art Voisin IIIs. I also have some Morane-Saulniers that are about to be repainted as some of the Czars best.

If they were models for display I'd agree with you, but since none of my Ares or Nexus planes are weathered I am keeping them 'clean'.
On the lookout for some A-B-C decals to uniquely identify them.

    Horses for courses Pete.

For play I keep mine pristine. For competitions I tart them down a bit.

Me too. I try to match them in with the Nexus/Ares planes, so no weathering for me (despite that it looks REALLY GOOD by those who do it!).

Here is a scan of the plate for the Squadron book. As you can see it is in camo from the Hawaiian Depot. The write up says the colors are Sea Green/Rust Brown and Sand over the OD finish.

OK, did a few 3D printed objectives for a buddy (and a boa and Medusa). Also another block of pikes...sigh 2 more to go then finished. Between 100 pikes and 80 Long spears that army has been a all summer job. Should have a second block finished by week end and then on to the third one.

Following in Pete's footsteps, preparing for the possible early war missions in heaven know's what theatre - A Pfalz EI from Coline/wow (Shapeways (only available in smooth fine detail plastic - good job I only wanted one ). Intended for Fliegerabteilung 300 but I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the colour scheme. Difficult to find info. I suspect it should really be in CDL But ah well, hey ho.

I ordered the decals last night so I'd better order the planes to go with them, would be a shame not to.

Here are the first pics of 4 P40's I did this month. First is a group phot of all four then a photo of each one. They are painted for Operation TORCH from plates in the AirFILE book I have on that subject. They would have flown off the USS Ranger or USS Chenango after the airfields were secured. Again these are AIM P40F's with MISCMINI decals. The decals are for other planes but they worked for these planes.

I still haven't decided on what camo scheme to put on the Felixstowe. I tried laying out a pattern using special masking tape for models, and it won't stick properly. Getting frustrated. Was also considering painting mask in a bottle. But then remembered the problems that I had with that the last time I used it. I also ran out of the large Rondel's for this and am waiting for more to arrive. *sigh*

Vickers F.b.2 Gunbus I don't like the decals from McEwan Miniatures. I ordered more British Decals from Skytrex and will be replacing these with the new ones once they arrive.

Default I also just completed the painting and decaling of these V-1's for WoW WW2.

Been wanting to do a "Buzz Bomb" intercept scenario for a while now. I was inspired to this from watching a WW2 Documentary about the RAF and one of the episodes was about the Tempests and Meteor's intercepting the Buzz Bombs. They did show a few of the Lend lease T-bolts as well though the A/C markings on it were obscured or the camera angle was such that made it difficult to ID them.

Default Not Wings of Glory but still are my September/October workbench projects...

The minis are from Battlefront & Gale Force 9 and are for the game 'Flames of War' and 'Tanks'. And more recently have been using them for a game called "What a Tanker" by Too Fat Lardies. Good system. I kinda like it a little more than the Beer and Pretzels, with emphasis on the "beer" of Tanks.
Most of these were already painted, they just were lacking in decals. Well, I was finally able to get the decals for them and have been busy getting them on.Click image for larger version.

The SdKz's from the Tanks game. I primered them in Desert Sand then painted over that with Yellow Ochre, then painted the camo in Africa Corps T.Crew Green. Looked good enough for me. Next step is to do a wash, then Flat coat sealer then add decals, then top seal again.
