Default Fall In, 9-11 Nov 2018

Fall In, 9-11 November 2018 in Lancaster PA.

Pre-registration for Fall In is now open. 'HERE' .

I will be running 5 Wings games, 2 WW2 games on Friday, 3 WWI games on Saturday. The listings are below.

F: 234: 15 - Guadalcanal, August '42 Friday, 3:00 PM, 3hrs, Players: 12 GM: Peter Landry, Sponsor: none Period: World War II, Scale: 1/200, Rules: Wings of Glory WW2

Late August '42 saw continued raids from the Japanese Betty bombers escorted by A6M2 Zeros. The Cactus Air Force was a mish-mash of P-400 Airacobras, SBD Dauntless and F4F wildcats. Today's mission for the Japanese is to bomb Henderson field and support their own ground troops. The Cactus Air Force will be conducting ground attacks on the advancing Japanese infantry while also defending against the incoming bombers.

F: 235: 19 - Bombers are crossing the Channel! Aug '40 Friday, 7:00 PM, 3hrs, Players: 12 GM: Peter Landry, Sponsor: none Period: World War II, Scale: 1/200, Rules: Wings of Glory WW2

After the initial German attack on channel shipping, focus was moved to attacking RAF airfields and facilities. Though outnumbered, the RAF had to try as they might to blunt the German attack. Do17s and He111s escorted by Me110s darkened the sky as the Hurricanes and Spitfires climbed to meet them.

S: 236: 10 - The deadly sky above Verdun Saturday, 10:00 AM, 3hrs, Players: 12 GM: Peter Landry, Sponsor: none Period: World War I, Scale: 1/144, Rules: Wings of Glory WWI

As the meatgrinder churned on and on across the ground around Verdun, the sky also became a not so safe place to be. The French gathered many scout esquadrille to fight in groups to keep the Germans from owning the air above the battle. Jean Navarre, the Sentinel of Verdun made his name and red N11 known to both sides above and below. Come fly N11s, MS type N & P, Caudron G4 vs Fokker E.III, Pfalz EII and III, Rumpler CI and more.

S: 237: 15 - The Balloon Busters Saturday, 3:00 PM, 3hrs, Players: 12 GM: Peter Landry, Sponsor: none Period: World War I, Scale: 1/144, Rules: Wings of Glory WWI

Attacking balloons was a dangerous business. Defended by ground support as well as the local Jastas made it a challenge only few were up to meet. An American force led by Frank Luke are out to knock down the eyes of the Germans opposite the AEF. SPAD XIIIs and N28s do their best to down the gas bags while Albatros DVas, Fokker DVIIs, SSW DIIIs try to prevent the observation platforms from being destroyed.

S: 238: 19 - Entente bomb run into Germany Saturday, 7:00 PM, 3hrs, Players: 12 GM: Peter Landry, Sponsor: none Period: World War I, Scale: 1/144, Rules: Wings of Glory WWI

Late in the war the Independent Force flies deep behind the lines to bomb Manneheim to take out a munitions factory. The IF composed of many HP 0/400s and Caproni bombers escorted by the newest scout, the Sopwith Snipe, along with Camels, SE5as and more. The Germans are not about to let this be a milk run and send up everything they can by way of Fokker DVIIs, SSW DIIIs, Albatros DVas and their latest Fokker EV and DVIII.

Unfortunately for Cold Wars if I do go I won't be able to register games ahead. As it will be in the midst of winter and snow plowing, I can only go if there is definite clear weather for the weekend. If I do go I should be able to get a table but without being in the PEL of convention book game attendance may be thin. We'll see.

Just got into Lancaster and checked into out hotel. Have not yet gone to the Host to register.

I have an email that mentions my game locations have changed. (see below) Hope everyone finds me ok as we are going to have a great time! I'll do my best to take photos to post.

    Hello Peter,

Due to the ongoing renovation at the Host, we’ve had to move your games from the Distlefink to “Vista’s Windows.” The construction has affected many scheduled games but I’ve been able to relocate games without having to cancel them. The good news is that space is very bright and the table size you requested, which I think is 5x8, has not changed. Anyone signed up for your game will be notified by email about the location change. We will also post signage to indicate where the relocated games were moved throughout the convention. The Convention Director and staff on site have worked hard to provide alternate gaming space instead of cancelling games. HMGS apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and we hope you have a fun experience at Fall-In!. If you have any questions about the location, your game or about Fall-In! in general, you are welcome to contact me by email or call me on the number below.

    Best Regards,

    Update to last post...

The Friday games are where they are listed in the program book, Room VD1. Access to this room is from the main lobby.

Saturday's games are now going to be in the Vista Windows room. This room is accessed through the same path via VD1. Next room past VD1 is where Saturday's games will be.

Back this morning from FALL IN and what a great time. Managed to get in a few games (all 5) and meet some new (great) people. Received a few ribbons which included 2 BULLSEYE awards. In the bomber game 1st turn moved into position. 2nd turn 4 B damage cards... 1+0/1-Pilot wounded/1-Flames/1-Engine damage. Next turn 1-3 points and a BOOM. Short day for that plane but still having a good time. This game earned me my 2nd BULLSEYE badge. Good game, good time and meeting new friends. At our age what more can a man ask for

Thanks the invite and awesomely fun first game of WoG. I could ask for a better game or game master or helpful and friendly tablemates. My goal was to get through Fall In! without finding a new game to buy stuff for. I failed miserably. I had such a great time, as soon as ive pages off this weekend, I'm picking up the rules, a battle mat, and at least 4 planes.

I had a great time. Thanks for the help playing (John) the patience (Peter and my opponents) amd the great game (Peter). I had a blast. Literally. 2 booms in my first game!

I can't wait to play again!

Yeh, this is an addictive game: which did you get sucked into WW! or WW2?
You might want to try and connect with Spanner: He found us at Origins and joined us. He is in Ann Arbor, and is part of a club.
    His profile page: https://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/me...p?9245-Spanner
Might try to send him an email rather than a PM; he hasn't been here since July, but he might be set up for email sending.

First off I'd like to say it was great to meet many new pilots this time around at Fall In and to reacquaint with many veterans. I find running Wings game bring out the nicest gamers of all the games I have run.

Bob was a masochist playing in all 5 of my games. Maybe it was all of those head shots?
John slogged through all Three WWI games on Saturday, he transferred to the RFC after being gassed in the trenches.

Thanks to all those that participated, my lovely wife Deborah, Bob, John, Michael, Eric, Mike, Shawn, Rich, Fred, Dave, Marc, Peter, Kris, Aiden, harry, Steve, Richard, Frank and any others I missed.

Games were over all well attended, Guadalcanal 8, Bombers over the Channel 4, Verdun 10, Balloon Busters 9, Mannheim raid 8.

This was a two for one. Pilots flew a pair of planes, each on a separate mission. First was the Betty attack on Henderson Field defended by Wildcats, second was P-400s on a ground support mission intercepted by Zeros.

    Game 4, Balloon Busters.

Frank Luke and the American boys are out to down a German balloon line. The Kaiser's kids are not about to let this happen... Each balloon will be hauled doen starting on the turn that it is shot at. It will take 12 turns to get them to the ground. Starting when the balloons were at 6 turns remaining the ground fire opened up. There were 4 Americans vs 5 Germans.

To avoid Kamakazi attacks, American planes colliding with a balloon do no damage to it, but will take damage themselves. The German pilots don't have this option.

Very quickly the Americans set a balloon at the end of the line on fire.

The bombers have a long way to go, but they have escorting Snipes and Dolphins.

Peter -- what great games ! I'm sure all the pilots had a terrific time. I played the Guadalcanal game up at Huzzah! and really enjoyed it. I'm really sorry I couldn't make it this time around.

We missed you Bill, hope you can make it next time. This was a whole new Guadalcanal scenario. You didn't get to play with P-400s in the battle you flew.

Looks like you are well set with your collection. I really like your Caudrons - I will have to use substitutes for those ...

Great stuff here, Peter! Your games have always been some of the prettiest 'shows' I've seen, and it's always great, as Rob, says, to see your photo reportage of the events. You are much better at taking pictures of things in progress than I'll ever be Lots of work but lots of fun...

    All the best,
    Matt

It would have been great for the Four Stooges to be together at Fall In. Hopefully it will happen again.

Yes, I have been working on some early war French. I'll be flying them in our next OTT campaign. The Caudrons are Shapeways if you feel the need....

Whoa, easy boy! You got so excited you didn't see the 2nd zero. P-400 Airacobras, not P-40 Tomahawks. I'm sure I'll be running this one again sometime.

Outstanding AAR on all the games. I always have a great time in your games so I guess that way I am a glutton for punishment, especially when you show the way I got between to two bombers.

Matt you can see I display the old ASA patch when I can and yes I did meet an old ASA'er, 98J and an AF intel guy who was stationed on Shimia (bet you haven't heard that name in some time).
