    Default Air Hares

Some of you may remember that two years ago the city of Norwich in the U.K. was 'invaded' by large models of dragons made from fibreglass decorated in various ways and I posted a photograph of a Biggles dragon. This year we have large models of hares. Here are pictures of 'Hareman Jack Hargreaves' and 'Sky'.

I too have not been able to find any connection between the t.v. presenter Jack Hargeaves and aviation, Dave, but I have sent an enquiry to the company, who sponsored the model.

No, they have not done a hare for Bob Fleming. His name does not link with the word hare even though he has a beard.

The hare has no connection with Jack Hargreaves the broadcaster. I received the following message about it today from ESE Direct Ltd. the sponsors of the model.

    Good Morning David,

I’m glad you’ve enjoyed following our GoGoHare, Hareman Jack.
He is however, a fictional character, he wasn’t based upon any one person.
His name is based on terms related to hares. Jack is the name of a male hare while ‘Hargreave’ is an old English word meaning grove (or orchard) of the hare.

We selected him because of Norfolk and Norwich’s links with the aviation industry.

    Kind Regards,

    Hareman Jack’s PA

Well that clears that up - I found a James Mckinley Hargreaves amongst the aces who became one of our first aces as an observer in a FB5.

Thank you for that information, Dave. There is a photograph of James McKinley Hargreaves on the other Aerodrome site.

What I find unusual is that neither Wikipedia or the other Aerodrome say what happened to him after he received his pilot's licence.
