So, now that we are sci-fi orientated with Tripods, any chance Ol' Cap'n America and the crew could reverse engineer any technology off knocked out Tripods and mount them on Vintage aircraft?

Given that the planes couldn't carry the powerplants to energize the weapons and shields, probably not.

Maybe in the face of adversity the Germans perfect the Fokker Leimberger, or the AH's perfect the Gebauer gets into service ?

I suppose that you could have some form of napalm bombs, poison gas bombs and, if you were prepared to take the risk, bombs filled with deadly germs. Also, you might copy the Baron's plane from Spiderman and have a grappling hook on a cable and attempt to pull over a tripod but I suspect that the tripod would be too heavy and it would pull down your plane.

I often wonder if deploying something like a bolas could entangle the legs.

Shades of Snow Speeder v ATAT a la Star Wars ?
Firing/hooking a grapnel on a tripod and flying around the legs so as to trip it up.

Aleksandr Kozakov (Russia's highest scoring ace) made several unsuccessful attempts to bring down enemy aircraft with explosives and grappling hooks trailing behind/beneath his Morane-Saulnier G in early 1915. Though it proved unsuccessful in air-to-air combat, I like the idea of it potentially working against ground-based Tripods.

That would be a cool idea to implement. The trade off for the big boom is that the pilot has to fly straight and level against the target to make the run.

Edit: When I first read it I thought it was about trailing an explosive reeled out of the plane. Basically contact fused TNT on a hook. Not sure why that came to mind after rereading the napalm and grappling hook comment. Although...

I think surviving circling the legs of a Tripod a couple of times without being burnt, smoked or collided with would be a pretty big ask but hey, no one said it would be easy and I'll enjoy watching people try !
To keep it simple you want to be able to place the hook - so anything but a 0 on the B deck at close range ? Then just get round it twice within one ruler range ? Then anything but a 0 on the B deck & it trips ?

If it were to work, that's probably the way to do it... keeping it simple to implement, if not simple to accomplish.

Of course, then how do you keep the cable, now attached to how many tons of tripod, from ripping your plane apart?
Guessing this option is for 2-seaters only, with a (good) chance for a draw of the collision deck

What if the cable and grappling hook system was carried by larger plane or a couple of planes and deployed as netting. Something like the barrage balloons nets but mobile by the planes.

I don't remember any episodes specifically, but Karl is correct... it's exactly the type of thing The Vulture Squadron would do.

I've been contemplating the bag of bricks thrown and grappling hooks for my Taubes etc, in the early war era. There was a morane monoplane in the lobby at Omaka with the grappling hook attached, looked crazy!

When your opponent has a large array of wires, snagging one at 50 mph could do damage to both of you, split the damage points?

As you'd be paying out line from a reel as you fly round it may not be such an issue - getting crisped, smoked and/or crunched is another matter entirely ! You'll need to cast off & drop another anchor to tighten it all up to cause the trip too.
I can't see that the plane will be able to keep up and make it round and round twice anyway to be honest, unless it's stationary for a while, but it's fun to think about it.

I was just reading through the rules and an optional rule is Anchor and Chain. Yep, you can toss out an anchor and attempt to wrap it around the legs of triood. On the end is a weighted ball that is completes the snare. You have to be to the side within half a ruler. You draw an A damage card. If it isn’t 0 you succeed. It is entangled and hits the ground the second phase after entanglement. Not sure why not the next phase, but, there it is.

OMG you guys ... don't look now but ARES actually did include an "Anchor and Chain" rule in the game to do EXACTLY THAT. An airplane flies alongside a tripod in an effort to entangle its legs!!! I kid you not!!!

As usual, I'm a little late in seeing things. I just basically shared the same thing you've already posted. But seriously, isn't that a hoot?

Next phase after a successful hooking the tripod has to be on the same side within one ruler for a successful topple. It's a nice abstraction of completing a circuit around the tripod without having to actually spend 4+ turns doing so!

I liked it when Captain Kiwi and I read it up in our read through the rules this morning. We think we now have a grasp of what the Tripods can and can't do so will try it against an aircraft next time out.
