Thread: What's on your September workbench? 2018 Edition.

  1. #1

Default What's on your September workbench? 2018 Edition.

Not planes, again. The office is coming together, but along with that August project, I was trying to finish some minis.

They got done on Saturday, with the bases blackened, but the clear-coating waited for sun on Sunday, in between putting in a closet organizer for the office.

These are for a game called 'Strange Aeons: A Miniature Skirmish Game of Eldritch Horror'. Strange Aeons are based in a roughly historical setting sometime after 1920 and can take place anywhere in the world. Warning: This is Cthulhu mythos based, so you know it won't end well, even if you think you're 'winning'.

If you haven't seen Strange Aeons (SA), you can discover it here: Strange Aeons.ca

Warning: This game suffers from Kickstarter-itis. The rules are now only available as PDFs, and SA minis are difficult to acquire. However, there are a few alternate sources.

The minis came from here: Pulp Figures.com - Products

You create a Threshold team (3 to 4 figures, usually), which develops as you 'win' sessions, gaining skills and options as you go. Unfortunately, you acquire disabilities, too. The bad guys are run by one of the other players, but are not the other player's bad guy team. The session is randomly rolled, and the bad guy team is assembled from a selection of cultists and creatures listed in the scenario (limited by your available minis, too). Players take turns running their team, with another player runnig the bad guys. So, technically you don't play against each other, you develop your Threshold teams together.

As a fan of the Cthulhu mythos, I love these character-full minis, Mike! What a fun group - I shall have to go to the link you've provided and look around...not that I need to enter a new gaming realm...

    Keep up the great work!
    All the best,
    Matt

I have been bitten by the Eastern Front bug. The three Spad A.2s have been pressed into service by the Czar. God knows no one else would want them. The Spad VIIs are about to get painted and given Imperial Russian livery as well.

Literally a new work bench for September! The elves hate down time so I found a project for them, excavating and organizing the formal garage shop! Hang the big models first . . .

Been a very busy month so far, not a lot of painting time. Did get another unit of cat riders out. This just about finishes up a KoW army for my buddies wife (3 large angels to go). Should have a small pike unit done in a day or so.

Besides prepping for M-Con in three days, I'm not doing a lot of WoG stuff. OK, I am working through a few Variant and Equipment cards, too.

I have had a piece of artwork on my wall for a few years, and SWMBO is thinking of tackling it as a stained glass piece. That required a line drawing of it for conceptual consideration.

I am trying to get my British Bolt Action commando platoon finished. Once that's out of the way concentrating on my own British after finishing Simons' hordes at the end of August. Then I hope to complete the last of my Chinese-Japanese aircraft so I can get started on the Air War campaign games I started way back.

Looking ahead, before Christmas I would like to get all my awaiting aircraft WW1 (20) and WW2 (50) finished.

Well finally took some photos of what I have been doing. First up are some P-40 B's (AIM) with a mix of MISCMINI decals. I did them up for the Philippines and Pearl Harbor markings I saw in the AirFILE book I have.

The bases are the Omni Stand bases that were mentioned in another thread started by Baxter. I ordered some to see how they are and the work fine. I use the flat topper and glued a ring magnet to it. I have a number of LITKO bases that work well but these are easier to tear down and store. Thanks for that info Baxter.

Thanks for the compliments. I see that Cold Wars will be at the Host again and the Historicon at the Lancaster Convention center. Looks like Fall In will be at Valley Forge. I missed it when it was there a few years ago. I guess the rooms will be at the Radisson which is next to the convention center there. I remember going to Valley Forge when I was much younger (a long time ago).
