Thread: Bf 109 over London?

    Default Bf 109 over London?

I am preparing a WGS BoB scenario for my group that gathers this weekend at my place, that's why my question is:
Have you guys ever heard of a dogfight among Spits/Hurries vs. Bf 109/110 over London?
Considering the short Emil's range it was not very probable...
But since we all had those beautiful poster mats of London...I am tempted...

Early accounts in the battle suggest there were brief fights over London. Before the E-7 version late in the battle, that had drop tanks, Me.109s that were ordered to keep close to the bombers couldn't stay with them when the bombers reached London, due to low throttle settings and flying at lower altitudes. Very fuel inefficient for fighters.

So, if your early battle scenario wanted to include both bombers and fighters, you could assume that the fighters timed their arrival over London to coincide with the arrival of a kette of bombers, and it would be 'historically probable'.

Late battle, assume drop tanks? E-7s have the same game stats as WWS E-4s (Galland).

Thank you Mike, you fueled, so to say, my mind.

    Use the drop tanks.

Do it as a true what-if; fly from a forward airstrip in Kent

I can easily imagine far more Bf.109 with limited fuel (10 moves?) than Spitfires and Hurricanes with unlimited fuel over London. It could be one of the rare case when fuel rules could be fine.
