They were something different and I didn't think of them as being the 3D type from back then. Would be something to see them that way.
It's fairly easy to make a stereoscopic viewer - they're literally just a frame with a viewing hole for each eye and a stick to hold the images. I'm sure there's build instructions somewhere around, and you could print off the pictures from the article.
Now... plane identification anyone? The crashed crate the Scots are looking at is a Nieuport of some kind. Can we assign a model number? My guess is a Nie 11 since it looks pretty small. The postal delivery plane could be an RE8, I think. The planes in formation look to be Bristol Fighters to my eye.
