My second WWII battle (and third Wings overall) was a group of bf 109s escorting Ju-87 Stukas on a group of ships being defended by Hurricanes and Spitfires.
For me this was an almost perfect setup. Each player controlled two fighters; those of us on the German side also controlled two Stukas. With only 6 players total things moved fairly smoothly (and fast).
David Fowler (Flash) from across the pond is in the light blue shirt - flying Spitfires, appropriately enough.
I control the 109s and Stukas closest to the map edge. My plan is fairly simple - use the 109s to attack the British fighters head-on and keep the Stukas close to the map edge. I need to keep close to the edge because the ships on my side of the map are angled in such a way that I need to go slightly past them and then turn into them to hit them beam on to maximize my chances of a bomb hit.
Brits coming toward me. I'm outgunned 3 to 2.
Coming to the merge.
I get very lucky here. The Spitfire on my far left ends up slightly overlapped with me, so there's no shot, which means the first exchange of fire is even up - two against two. I concentrate my fire, and shoot down one of the Spitfires.
Fast straight plotted here so I can Immelmann on the next card - I need to turn around before the Spitfires can turn into the Stukas.
After the Immelmann heading back into the fray.
I'm hoping here to get into position to make my bomb runs. At this point, however, both Stukas have been hit - one of them is down to only one point of damage remaining.
As the Stukas close on the ships a Spitfire is closing from their 1 o'clock.
Lined up on the big ship dead ahead and have two bombs cards coming up...
...only to be shot down by AA fire.
Back to the fighters - I scored a kill here. While this was going on someone accidentally knocked over my remaining Stuka. I had lined it up to make its bomb attack, but when they placed it back on the map it was off enough that my cards no longer lined me up on the ship. It didn't really matter, because the game ended about this point.
My first attempt at trying to use a bomber in the game. A lot harder than you think it is. Overall I'm satisfied with my game. I flew my fighters well. I wish I had done better with the JU-87s. On my first one I eschewed the closer ship to get in an attack on the big one behind it. I shouldn't have gotten greedy - I should have gone ahead and dropped on the small one.
Next up is the big B-17 battle, which I've been looking forward to.
