Default WGF Battle in Mount Prospect

I would like to acknowledge Games Plus in Mt. Prospect Illinois for hosting us on Sunday, May 27, 2018. Games Plus at 101 W. Prospect Ave. in the heart of downtown just north of the Metra tracks is a haven for gamers of all kinds. They even have WoG miniatures and game mats in stock! Myself, my brother Bob (BB401), Scott Killinger and Mark Miller participated in a 4 hour battle on a 95 degree day in air conditioned comfort at the Big Blue table in the Games Plus gaming room. it was a good crowd on hand with seven other tables occupied with games of various kinds. Our battle over Belgium did draw attention and several questions from those in attendance not familiar with WoG.

The Big Blue table is bar height at least 43 inches. It took 10 games mats to cover. Despite all the room it did not detour us from getting in each others way as the battle proceeded. If not for all of the diving and climbing there would have been several disastrous collisions.

Here is the scenario set up. I had control of the two US DH4s and the 96th Aero Squadron Breguet bombers. My allied partner Mark controlled the three fighter escort of an N17, N28 and a Spad XIII. Bob and Scott defended with three Pfalz and Albatros DVs, respectively. Initially it did not look good for the we Entente as the N28 was taken down early with a big Boom! But recovery was quick as the bombers reached Trench targets, taking out two of the AA gun emplacements.

The battle raged and finally exhausted us as several of the Central Powers fighters were brought down and all three bombers, turned fighters, were able to make it back with no losses.

A good time was had by all, but by 3:30 we had to pack up and head for the Grills - it was Memorial Day Sunday after all

That's one big table! What targets did you bomb? Those dh4's are good planes, and I read somewhere probably one of the only planes where the US managed to make slower than it's Brit versions. Apparently the Rolls Royce Eagle engine was tremendous but hard to come by, the Liberty engine lacked a little power and was heavy in comparison.
Glad you guys had a blast.

That's a lot of territory to cover, the balloons look great over that massive mattage !

    Superb looking game.
I would love to get into a really big dog fight over that one.

Absolutely correct. They were fast enough for the game except for the rate of climb, which by rule, is half that if we had the Rolls Royce motor! This day the climb rate did not matter as much since were first diving to the trench targets. It kept us from harm by the fighters for the most part, but did open us up to arms fire from the trenches - fortunately the troops could not track we strafers too well!

You are quite correct, it was a long reach many times, but the height of the table helped so all of our backs seemed to hold up

Everyone pitched to make it so. it was amazing how little territory was used once we got in range, we could not stay out of each others way! It was crazy at times.
