I just picked up a 1/200 scale p-38 and was wondering if someone could direct me to the proper maneuver and gun decks.

Go to the files for the Unofficial plane list 'HERE'.
There also special notes and gunnery arcs for many planes in the files as well.
Hmmm... It has been too long since I looked at these: Official Lockheed P-38 Lightning Painting Thread - Post #19
They are now out-of-date with the latest stats. Upgrading commences...

Mmmmm, updated Lightning cards would be very nice!
It's good to have dreams, Pete.
Until then, this might help: OldGuy59's WWII American Heavy Fighters Album

Yeah, about that 'Fighter' status...
Bf-110 wingspan 53 feet, P-38 wingspan 52 feet. And the P-38 is listed as a "Heavy Fighter" in the reference I use, along with the Bf-110 and the Beaufighter. Yeah, the other two have more crew, but the number of engines, armament, and size say it isn't a "Fighter".

Its not clear to me as the unofficial committee says fighter base, not heavy fighter. Does the extra crew make it heavy? It makes it an easier target to hit with the larger base. Was it the speed the committee sees as the difference as the Lightning (414 mph) was a lot faster than the 110 (348mph) and the Beaufightrer (320 mph) ?
I guess we'll see when ARES finally releases them.

The P-38 is on Ares' planned production list but we have been waiting several years for them.
Would the LITKO medium base be the one to use for the P-38 ? I have 2 New Ray planes and 3 AIM planes.
I have 2 Sky Pilot/New Ray P-38's & have used them in Pacific War games including a Battle of the Bismarck Sea. I used a Litko standard Fighter base at that time. Photo attached.
Also attached is the Card & Stats used back then.
These have since been updated.

Hmmm...
Now we are getting into game design. And balance things. Perhaps damage is the deciding factor? I have no idea.
But, now that you mention it, that 'easier target to hit' thing troubles me. That could be a problem with a larger stand.
Now, it is up to the player, until something really official comes out. The fact that I have used the Heavy Fighter card doesn't stop someone from putting the plane on any base they choose.

Good info. I thing the fighter base looks good and should work well. Thanks
I think as the Lightning has only a pilot then the Fighter Base is correct.
Been trying to avoid WWII as I still have 50 to 60 planes left to get all the WWI planes. BUT.....last week our gaming group decided to try WWII next month. Sigh..not a good thing. Grabbed a squadron pack BF109 on the way out that night and did some Fleabaying this weekend (I.E. Got a squad pack Stuka in the mail today and have a Me110, Hurricane, and WOW starter box Without planes on the way). Watching for the second WoW box set, and maybe the one with the 4 planes then all the card decks. After that plan on finishing up a commission for the hobby store next month and will use that to grab the BoB box they have on the shelf. Now searching endlessly for that green HE111 bomber. Once I get the WoW cards in my hands I can look closer at Shapeways though I am less then impressed with what I saw in 1/200 scale tonight. Wish RAF did 1/200 WWII as I like his work.
Damn them and their change of wars.
Ken, for WW2 go to AIM. 'HERE' AIM is tops fro 1/200 WW2. Shapeways is good for some of the more obscure planes like Neil's early war Chinese and Japanese. For main-stream WW2 AIM is the way to go.
Interesting, cheaper then 3D prints. Does anyone know how fragile they are? Also anyone have an idea on how long till they get WoW/WoG stands in?
They are resin so quite robust. I have dropped some fighters of mine and they shrug it off. You might have to go the Litko route for stands (see gully-raker's photo above) if you don't use Keith's.

Got a few of Keith's already, but you never seem to have enough. I do wish one of our decal makers would make the information blurbs as a decal though. Get a sheet and have enough for 3 planes and the decals for 3 stands would work nicely. Down side is SOOO many sheets to stock then.
You can always print your own decals. I use Litko stand bases. Info not really needed on the stand as long as you have the plane card.
Will think on it. Sort of buried in commissions right now anyway. Who has time to do their own stuff...
OK, this is getting out of control
Been about two weeks now and have gotten both The Dawn of war and fire from the sky box sets, 3 out of 4 blister packs, and 4 aircraft (Bf 109, Stuka, Me110, and Hurricane). Got my eye on a BoB box set at the hobby store, and the last blister on E-bay. Gonna start adding planes soon (after I recover some cash reserves). Plus side is cleaned out the local hobby shop of all their old WOW stuff so have 2 brand new Watch your Back boxes in reserve. May be spoken for already though. Also almost finished getting all the Old WoW stuff so have cards for off brand planes now. Down side is one of my I decks had a factory misprint card that was cut short so one deck is missing a card. But hey, that is the Stuka deck and WILL be getting a few more of those.
I did not want to go WWII...sigh....need HE111's now, and a B17, and, and, and.......
Plus side is WWII is not as popular AND there are a heck of a lot fewer planes to collect. Liking the Squadron idea for the BoB planes though. With the BoB push they do need more HE111's Do 17's, Defiants, JU 88's, Do 215's, and Whirlwinds (263 Squadron) ..OK...the last one sat it out in Scotland but still there were over 100 made and fought.
Stealing a pun from an old potato chip commercial, "Betchya can't buy just one" (of each).
I have 215 of the WGS planes - you know, the ones I wasn't going to get into ...
Lightning...yes...AIM prepare for another production batch! Nightbomber is gathering funds and collecting orders from his Flight members...
This summer/fall season PTO skies will be full of angry planes...

JU 88
Mosquito
G3M3 Nell
A26
All twin engines.
The Junkers Ju-87D Stuka had a 50 foot wingspan and the Stukas use the small bases. The P-38 seems to be somewhere near the boundary between the two base sizes. If you want a heavy fighter base with only a forward gun arc, Keith has some bases for the De Haviland Mosquito in the Aerodrome Store.
