Now I'm not so sure about Tim's fortitude after all, although he did not mention the Sai*s word.
I may have to blag one of those Frog Pills back off him to keep me away from the X marks the spot.

Hokey religions and ancient games are no match for a good game like X-Wing.

It has always been easy for me to resist X-Wing because it is functionally a land based game not a flying game.

Battlestar Galactica - Starship Battles: in Stores Soon!
Starter Sets to arrive at our warehouse early next week, in stores in December

In BATTLESTAR GALACTICA — STARSHIP BATTLES, players take control of Colonial and Cylon spaceships and face each other in furious dogfights and daring missions.

The innovative game system features easy to learn rules, a unique set of maneuver cards for each spaceship, and two exclusive devices — the control panel and the rotating miniature base. You will be able to relive on your tabletop the exciting combat sequences from the TV series, just a few minutes after opening the box!

This Starter Set includes four beautiful ready–to–play miniatures: two Colonial Vipers Mk. II (including Apollo’s Viper and his pilot card) and two Cylon Raiders, along with their special control panels, playing bases and maneuver decks. Also included are combat rulers, spaceship cards, pilot cards, talent and flaw cards, asteroid and planetoid templates, and everything else you need to play.

    I’ve got cream for those.

I still have a box (from Gale Force 9 IIRC) for use with X Wing that will do service.

I have plenty of asteroids from my Full Thrust days (they used to be a large bath sponge before I got at 'em!) and have two 6 x 4 space mats from Deep Cut Studios (bought for X-wing).

Just need the Ares starter box(es).....................

I'm watching the new series for the first time now as well. I just got the email from Ares that I can now order this game for the AA store, just can't decide if I want to carry it or not.

    I'd buy one.

And I agree. .. there's a lot to like about the new series.

I'm still on the fence about it, Keith - I could see myself buying one to support you and the AA store, but I am by no means a 'completionsist' - I don't have every Ares Wings or Sails miniature, nor do I feel a need to have them. I am also not as fond of that show as I am of Star Wars, and I already have a couple dozen SW X-W miniatures that I play with every so often. It's a conundrum... Perhaps I should watch the new series and give it another chance.

Were you to carry it, would you consider a third forum to parallel the Wings and Sails forums? I wonder how many of the 'active' members here are BSG fans - I haven't really paid close attention to the number of folks chiming in on the various BSG-associated threads...

Good luck as you come to a decision on this - wiser minds than mine can certainly help you along that path!

    Always the best,
    Matt

I can order you in one if you like. I'll probably pick one up for my self regardless of what I decide for the store, so getting a extra or two is no big deal. It would set you back $45 plus the shipping.

I think it will be for mainstream stores, but I've got very little presence outside of the forum members.

No, I'd not do another forum for it. I can barley manage the two, even with all the help I get from some of the members. That and I don't know how much expansion Ares is going to do on that game line. I'm not sure there will be enough material to warrant a forum.

I do not think that there will be many expansions for Battlestar Galactica. Ares had the Heavy Cylon Fighters and Colonial Raptors models at Essen, so presumably that will be the first. There are also Viper Mk VII's, the Stealth Viper and Adama's early Viper, which they could do. They have also mentioned an 'Original Series Battlestar Galactica' expansion.

    Default Setup

I recommend for the game setup a minimum of one peg. That gives you more room for an altitude change.

The ships fit easier on the pegs, too.

...and here you can see how I fixed the stickers on the ship‘s bases.

Like the movement rules where you can plan one or two cards, stand still or do a reverse.

    There are steep maneuvers, etc.

Easy to adjust the speed on the flight panel.

At all you have to execute the maneuvers careful. Bases are small and the flight cards tricky.

After firing, Lee Adama missed the Cylon and catches himself a 5+. So he has to draw another damage token, a 6+ (the second + is ignored).

2/3 of the colonial viper are wrecked.

Cylon had to roll a dice and get a 9.

    - 1 for the long range shot and without pilot modifier he scores with a result of 6+, because 6 is his combat value.

Maybe I can organize a first game on Monday.

I was hooked after my first game in Prague, despite having a previously-unknown talent for drawing "+" chits!

The ability to spin around, and fly backwards past your enemy, shooting as you go was just like the TV series!

I'll be getting a couple of starter sets when they are released, despite the work needed on the control consoles; I saw what Dave Manley had done with his to pep them up a bit, and, all in all, it'll be a lot less work than painting minis!

Absolutely nothing - they work fine just as they are.

But if you want them to look pretty, a simple dark ink wash, then picking out raised areas with metallic drybrush, then colouring the numerals with a bright paint makes them look a whole lot better!

And here I was going to strip the consoles into parts, spray paint them black, and then dry brush them with silver. The ink wash might work, but without paint to stick to, it might look a bit messy. Much more work than anything I've done with any of my planes.

Tim is probably referring to mine, which I took to Warfare last week. I painted mine with watered down black acrylic then wiped off the excess and picked out the text in yellow. Looks great and no need to disassemble. I will post pics when I'm able.

This looks great, David Did you use any sort of sealer on it to prevent the yellow from rubbing off during use, or would that gum up the movement on the little toggles?

    All the best,

I'm guessing it would bung up the works. The acrylic I use is fairly hard wearing, I don't think its going to be an issue. But even if it was its just a few seconds to touch up.

    Thanks for the rep guys

I has occurred to me that using laser pointers would be a good 'special effect' for this game.

Super work on those consoles David! They really look the part. On the other hand I think the toasters look too new and need a little weathering.

We often use laser lines like the ones from Harbor Freight or Home Depot.

Be careful though, on some of the cheaper ones the line curves. It's easy to spot if you put the line next to a ruler.
