Apologies if I've missed it, but surprised not to see anyone mentioning this here so far...

Andrea hinted at a liking for space type stuff on this thread
    https://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sh...hey-are-planes

    and posted this pic !

Sounds like it will be a fun game, my lad would have preferred it based on 'Wing Commander' I suspect, a computer game he loves & is very good at but he may try this in spite of being heavily into X-Wing.

So Dave, how are you able to run Wing Commander on a PC these days?

GOG (Grand Ole Games) is usually a good place to go for that: Wing Commander™ 1+2. But I don't know where he goes.

GOG has a lot of the old games they modify to run on current machines. I have the X-Wing and TIE Fighter series.

P.S. Kind of like Steam Powered but has, mostly, older games.

He gets loads of stuff from GOG too but he can run that game from his original disks. Clever blighter.

While I love the creative process, and might like the game, I'm a bit irked at the diversion of reportedly scarce resources that could go to ore WoG releases.

im with karl on this one. im a battlestar galacitica fan, but id like to see more time an effort devoted to wog. hopefully at least, this game is successful and generates interest and funds for ares that they can devote some of to wog.

Whilst I do not intend to dilute my WoG spending on other games I must say I would prefer this to the Star Wars "knock off" of WoW/Wog.

    .....BATTLESTAR GALACTICA?!?!

I’ve been collecting the miniatures for a couple of months now, trying to get enough Vipers and Cylon Raiders to have some tabletop Dogfight-in-Space battles! Here is my Battlestar Collection so far. So I say bring on the new game! I’m sad to hear it won’t be a “Wings of Glory” game!!

Apparently Andrea has had the game mechanics for this one playtestsed and waiting in the wings for some years, and the only effort from here is in getting the minis designed and manufactured. Getting the rights was the issue.
The same mechanics would confirm B5 if ever they get the rights for that.

I suspect given the size of the Viper (8.5m) that 1/200 might be an appropriate scale. Of course that would mean the BSG would be over 7m long in scale, so best represent just the hanger as one table edge.

Do NOT give Clipper ideas about 7 metre long models. Please.

Thanks a lot for your interest in this game!
I undersand your worries. But please feel assured that the effort is increasing and that the Sci-Fi games are adding strenght to the family, instead than weakening it. As an example, it seems that the new project are bringing a few new distributors here and there in the world, and this is a great help for our classical Wings of Glory and Sails of Glory lines too that are more lively than ever.

an update saying that Tripods are already produced (even if people want more of them) and the new wave of Dr.I, Camel, D.Va, SPAD XIII, Nieuport 16 and balloons are being finalized and and ready for production next month. Se5a, Pfalz D.III, Albatros and Breguet two-seaters, Ju-88, Do-17, SM79 and Bristol Blenheim are well ahead. The Ww1 campaign pack in sin final stage on editing. New Sails of Glory ships have been prototyped. Other models for all lines are in earlier stages of developement. Reprints of Battle of Britain and Sails of Glory basic sets are being distributed with a new language added... From a recent informal post by Roberto Di Meglio on Facebook, Wings of Glory and Sails of Glory are the backbone of Ares' activity (even if they have other great games too, as the Tolkien lines) so be sure that they will not be forgotten for some new games that will be added to the catalogue.

I am very excited about this new game. Wings of Glory is my first love. And I also very much love Sails of Glory. If Battlestar is similar in some ways to Wings, then I’ll be a happy man! Any success for ARES is good for us all, in my humble opinion.....

A Battlestar Galactica space combat game will need a practical 3-dimensional combat system. If the Battlestar Galactica would be 7m long, a Cylon Base Star would be enormous.

Number 6 is also trained as a pilot. IIRC she was flying a heavy raider in one of the final battles.

As I also remember, many battles in BSG start with capital ships firing a wave of guided missiles. Do you have mechanism for that? And if yes, does it mean that WoG can be extended to rocket armed jet fighters?

While I will love getting the BSG WOG game, isn't it rather limited with ships before it has to take the X-Wing approach of making up fighters? We have the Original Cylon Raider and Mk. II Viper. The reimaged Raider, Heavy Raider, Raptor, Viper Mk. II, Mk. III (briefly seen in flashbacks but not the main series), Mk. VII, and the homegrown Blackbird. Still getting maybe two WWII releases a year but now Ares wants to do a game based on a property that you can count all the original fliers on two hands with a finger to spare? It's a struggle to find earlier series that are in desperate need of reprints, we have models coming out that look like Ares is cutting corners (the new "painting" method for starters), and not happy with a steam-punk setting they now are trying to stick their fingers into sci-fi in what looks like an attempt to compete with another setting. I can't be the only one feeling this way?

I could imagine a BGS game that do not throw waves after waves on the market.

Just 3 or 4 series with different squadrons from Galactica an Pegasus, some iconic pilots and waves of enemy raiders...

...and then reprints of the core game and the series.

This sounds like the start of a familiar old story. By the minis and get a pilot card and a ship card. Pilot not good enough, buy a booster pack. Ship not good enough, buy a booster pack to get better weapons or shields. Still not good enough repeat the process. Need a mini, there will be an over abundance on the shelves, aka X-wing and the Star Trek games.
Our local game store has about 30sq. FT of wall space dedicated to each game, yet they only host Magic The Gathering tournaments.

Surely with the number of other waves/ series waiting in the wings, this game would benifit from a wave every three or four years... ohhhh sorry im a bit bitter over T&T / Sails and Wings replens.
So wish this had been the kickstarter and NOT T&T

I have to be the dissenting vote on this one. I couldn’t stand the reboot. And Series 6 was nothing more than a 7 of 9 clone from ST. Stick a large breasted babe in the show to suck in the early 20 somethings and get some cheap ratings to make the show look good. Nah, while the original show wasn’t outstanding it was still cool for its time and a decent departure from ST. At least before the 1980 spin-off...

But back to the game; it looks like it could be a blast if it differentiates itself from WGF/S enough to not be a clone of those two games. To piggy-back on Lucas from K-towns point, maybe a home grown space game instead?

  47. #47

I agree with Lucas about the limitations. I think BSG, like TRON would do better as a tactical board game, with more board game-like scenario, map, and general content expansions rather than as a miniatures game focused on model expansions. I also sense a withering of WGS due to neglect. Remember, Blood Red Skies is about to be released so...

The only limitation is your imagination! I’m telling you guys, this game is going to be amazing!!!

Limited perhaps. But how limited in 3&3? Aren't you already making up tripods? How many more might there be? I do like BSG, not sure if I'll get a new game. I have WOG: WWI that nicely replaces Star Wars: X-Wing. BSG might give me back the Sci-Fi feeling. Not sure yet.
