Fingers crossed this works for Ares. Games based on film and TV can be real money spinners but are notorious "company breakers" as well, in part due to the expense of paying for the license. They will probably need to up their game in terms of advertising and keeping the full range available at all times to make this work. I hope it does
Number 6 is also trained as a pilot. IIRC she was flying a heavy raider in one of the final battles.
As I also remember, many battles in BSG start with capital ships firing a wave of guided missiles. Do you have mechanism for that? And if yes, does it mean that WoG can be extended to rocket armed jet fighters?
This sounds like the start of a familiar old story. By the minis and get a pilot card and a ship card. Pilot not good enough, buy a booster pack. Ship not good enough, buy a booster pack to get better weapons or shields. Still not good enough repeat the process. Need a mini, there will be an over abundance on the shelves, aka X-wing and the Star Trek games.
Our local game store has about 30sq. FT of wall space dedicated to each game, yet they only host Magic The Gathering tournaments.
Really excited about the BSG game. Really not excited about the money I'm going to be compelled to spend! HA!
I'm glad to hear from Angiolillo that the whole lineup of Ares miniature games is doing well also!
Personally, I'm quite looking forward to a good space combat game to go along with WW1 and WW2 air combat!
And hopefully it will do well, providing Ares with more resources to provide new items and new planes for WW1 and WW2 also.
And I wouldn't mind if Battlestar Galactica sticks with just 3-5 different space fighters for each side. Honestly, if I hadn't cooled on X-wing due to what I've read about FFG's shenanigans on these boards, I probably would have quit anyway due to the overwhelming emphasis on tournament builds and constant purchases in X-wing to "chase the meta" at tournaments.
Liked both BSG series but sort of prefer the first run. New run was a bit too dark for me though I did enjoy it. Still prefer the model for the first BSG over the newer version though. The older Battlestar had more character for my tastes.
Are you allowed to share what kind of a run this will be? I'm very reluctant to get into another game where I'm collection bunches of ships/planes/fighters over the next several months or years. If only a certain amount of fighters are going to be released that is easier to budget for.
For the moment the focus is on Reinagined Series with a limited range of small ships. No danger of high number of waves to be bought.
If this did not happen forcing you on a path of buy the Nieuport 11 - buy it, throw it away and buy the better Nieuport 17, buy the better twin-machinegun variant, hey there is a Lufbery ace pack with a skill You can not get otherwhise, what’s that sturdier Nieuport 24 that has been announced... we could have eun the game that way and we did not. Why do you fear that this will happen with Battlestar Galactica? We are the same people, we have already avoided making Wings of War a collectible card game in the first place or making anything obsolete in 14 years of publishing this game, even through a major company change...
Ares has already a long experience of releasing games from Tolkien’s movies. It does not seem to have harmed the company at all. So I’m optimist.
Well said, Andrea.
Too bad the only place we'll get N24s though is on Shapeways No matter, I have a few, N24, N24bis, N27... they look good even if not exactly the best aircraft in the game. And even the best aircraft in the game aren't that much better than their contemporaries. 1918 aircraft are better than 1916 ones, but one 1918 aircraft can take on any other 1918 aircraft on about even terms. It's mainly a matter of taste and play style.
Only a few eccentrics like me enjoy playing a DH2 vs a D.VII.
Truth. I would never think of equating Ares with FFG, which a good thing in my book. The famous Living Card Game distribution system is evil when applied to a miniatures game. So evil in fact, that FFG has inspired Games Workshop to embrace a similar system with their Shadespire game.
I’m excited about this game. I’m bursting at the seams to play!!
Flying is hours and hours of boredom sprinkled with a few seconds of sheer terror! Gregory Pappy Boyington, USMC
I have the "Original" Battlestar Galactica Model kit and the Cylon Base Star kit. Both are ready for the BSG release...
Just need the fighters!!

Any chance of a sneaky preview game at Prague Andrea.

Nope been offline. Excellent news

Got me to looking on my game shelf. Still have a copy of the FASA version of the game with paper map and cardboard counters from the early 80's. We used to play it a lot.
I am glad all the work Andrea and his team put in on this concept so many years back will finally see a finished game on the market.
I think it will entice quite a few jaded X wing players back from the 'dark side'

Sorry for my poor wording. Sometimes I want to be short and then it's not clear.
I was talking about the timetable of Prague Summer Con - HERE
For saturday late afternoon there is Authors surprise, which means Battlestar Galactica DEMO.
Repeating of a demo games in Prague in 11 minutes (OK, I'm still not there, the start will be delayed a little).
Hmmm... I missed something looking at the above image, the first time through. Dan-Sam reposted it concerning the PragueConDemo game, and I finally recognised it.
In the top left corner of the table in the image? That is obviously part of the game, if the images on it are what I perceive as Battlestar Galactica pictures. It appears to be a, GASP, dice tower!
This would kill any interest in this game for me.

Andrea mentioned that players "asked" him about a dice game.
By the way, Mike, have you ever tried D-Day Dice? This game changed my perspective on dice games.
Dice tower not included, it’s a gift from a friend. Yes, dice are rolled when firing to enemies with cannons.
He made it himself. He is a great specialist of dice towers.

Andrea, thanks SO MUCH for bring it to Prague Con!
I laugh in the face of danger - then I hide until it goes away!
You welcome!
Glad that you appreciared it. It has not been so easy to bring it to Prague actually. Ares Games was glad and helpful, but several approvations had to be cleared with everyone involved before we could announce the game. Thanks to the joint effort of several people, we msnaged to do that just in time!
First models will be Viper Mk.II, Raider, Raptor and Heavy Raider from the re-imagined series. Others to follow!
Yep, played it in Prague, mechanics work quite well (until you run into an asteroid!). Will be getting this when available. Ordered BS DVD from Amazon purely in the name of research.......
Run for your life - there are stupid people everywhere!
