So this lot got finished on 31st March, but who's going to argue about being a day out? 601 Squadron Airacobra Is, a mix of AIM and HBM. The HBM ones were originally painted as Russians about 8 years ago, but got re-purposed. Decals by Shed with home-brew flying swords for the fin flashes and the nose of Jumbo Gracie’s mount. I probably painted more up than 601 ever managed to get serviceable at any one time

This Mossie NFII was finished Wednesday, an AIM model painted as a 23 Squadron machine, with a mix of MiscMini and Shed decals. One down, 15 to go....

Nice job guys!

I'm currently working on a bunch of japanese fighters and bombers for a friend. Most are AIM, and I was amazed by the sculpting and quality of the resin.
Here's a preview, an Oscar flown by Major Toyoki Ito of the 64th squadron in 1944:

Just added my Aichi D1A1's, Ki-10's and a CR32 to the Sino-Japanese air flotilla's. (pics in the painting section).

Next up finishing off the 101st Airborne for Simon.

Then onto the 82nd Airborne for Simon.

Eventually getting round to the next batch for the Sino-Japanese War:

These arrived from Shapeways before April 1st, but I didn't get a chance to do anything with them until now. Across the back are a Gotha W.13 (which I plan to decorate for the Ottoman Empire), a Sopwith Cuckoo, and a Short 184. In front are three 1/700 scale freighters. I am planning a torpedo/bomber attack on a convoy of freighters using Skafloc's (Keith) air to sea rules.

The three freighters are by 'Clear Air Turbulence'. However the ships are lacking a fair amount of detail, but if you want simple targets they will do. The ship is about 4.5 inches in length.

Decapod Models, maker of many airplanes for WoG, also has two freighters that could be used in the game: 'EFC 1020 'Laker' WW1 Freighter 1/600 & 1/700' and a 'EFC 1013 WW1 freighter Various Scales'. The EFC 1020 is a 3200 ton freighter which scales to slightly over four inches in length. The EFC 1013 is a 8800 ton freighter and is over seven inches in length.

'Mini and beyond' has a 1/700 scale Vietnam era AKL, a Navy light freighter. I don't know if any freighters during World War I bore a resemblance to this ship, but I like the looks of it.

I was kind of busy while the forums were unavailable. Now, trying to find 1/700 World War I warships is proving difficult. I did find some AH torpedo boats by 'Fpmodel', but I am looking for British destroyers and German light cruisers to serve as escorts for the freighter convoy.

Outstanding work everyone, liking what I am seeing. Got buried in commissions so will have pics up soon 2 big fantasy armies of over 100 figs each (one is based off a successor wars pike army with elephants and is closer to 200 figs), random Zombicide stuff I always get , and looking like a new Bolt Action army (will know more tonight when I get to the hobby shop for WoG night)

Sooner or later pics will be coming.

A 'Grabneresque' MkII Humber scout car for WW2 - no basis in history for the paint job I've done but I'm happy with it - apologies for the poor quality photo.
Hopefully it will see some action next week.

WWI vehicles in 1/144 are scarce!!!! I found these through shapeways. The trucks, cannons and Ambulances are done in" frosted ultra detail" and impressed the hell out of me! I believe the designer is "Masters of military" They were not cheap but definitely worth it. The tanks did not impress me. They were done in "green and polished". Polished means it gets tumbled with media and lose detail. After all that, I still felt like I was painting an emery board! Thumbs down. I ordered several tanks in metal from Arrowhead miniatures. They have magnificent detail. I'll post pics once I get to them. These were all done with acrylics and sealed with Testors Clear Flat Lacquer. These are my first attempts at 3D printed materials.

I think I have started to become a big fan of 1946 style stuff. Here is a Tamiya 1/48 panther G with the hull sanded and filled to make it a "cast" hull. I do have some Aircraft coming in the mail that I can't wait to get building but here is the cast hull panther for now:

Those are some nice looking land ships! I especially like that tadpole.

The freighters have increased in numbers. At the back is Decapod Model's EFC 1013 freighter. Next is Decapod Model's EFC 1020 freighter. Astern of them is the Vietnam era AKL light freighter. The gray vessel is my earlier freighter given a coat of spray primer. I am still waiting for resin detail parts from Battle Fleet Models to add some interest to this ship. As you can tell Decapod Model ships are much more detailed. Masts are included with his ships but I have not shown them.

The EFC 1013 freight costs more than the two EFC 1020 ships because of the size i.e. amount of material in the model. Most warships would be larger and cost much more. I added a pipe cleaner to the generic freight to shown it under steam. I'm looking at adding the Litko splash and mini flame markers to mark attacks on the ships.

I have two different tones of this 'water' material. One deep water and another with a lighter more tropical look. They are very nice and a good price. Only downside is inattentive folks can accidentally pull it. I strongly suggest if using this not to have any material hanging over the table edge.

You have to pick up your planes to move. You don't want to slide the plane base as it can push or catch on the fabric. Not catastrophic but can be a little irritating. Once you get used to it its fine playing on.

I haven't had that misfortune as mine is contained on a pool table.
I never have played with any mats hanging over the edge - I can imagine a disaster ...

In my old days of miniature battles on a large green felt piece, it hung over the table. Gamers would inevitably pull it along an edge while reaching to move their troops. Minor earthquakes ensued! With just a thin material the disruption is proportionally larger. Now I keep all material/mat from overhanging the table.

Blood Red Skies arrived today, nice looking game, but far and away not quite the game Wings of Glory is. One can get a quick grasp of the difference by looking at the minis alone. Single cast, all plastic, the planes have great surface detail, yet molded way too thin in the wings and too thick in the empanage. Only 2 of six planes were not twisted and distorted . . .

This is Great! Back when I was a itinerant artist in the groovy 60's I was into tie dye and batik we used melted wax painted into the base fabric which resisted the fabric dye. If cracked then dyed, the color would soak into the cracked fabric creating a groovy effect. This fabric could be waxed and dyed with a dark blue dye. After the dye was set in a salt water bath, you had to iron the wax out between lots of layers of newspaper which soaked up the melted wax. Long story to get to this result- the process left the fabric slightly stiff and neatly webbed with dark color. The wax process also brought out the colors . . . I will try to find my headband and Iron Butterfy albums and try a batik naval mat! Thanks for the lead on the fabric "groovy man"!

My oldest son, Michael, his "home therapy". He has over 60 in his collection, all in 1/1500" scale "fun size". My grandson at 6 years old loves to play with his father's collections of ships and tanks!
