Default Wings of Glory at the Comox Air Force Museum

My local gaming group is attempting a Wings of Glory Campaign, and due to various reasons the Friendly Local Gaming Store wasn't able to provide the venue as their hours of operation and some of the participants' hours of availability didn't match up. So, I approached our local aviation museum to see if we could use their library for occasional Saturdays. They agreed to a trial or two.

Our first event was the 24th of March, and we had four players (including myself) show up.

Using my Convention Board, and the set up on the conference table in the Library:

Note: The Museum has over 8000 books on aviation that are available for use in the library. This is where I go for some of my line drawings for custom plane cards.

The first game - Central Powers on a Photo-Recon mission. Victory Points for stalls over target cards on the Entente side of the table:

Not so clear, as I was using Ares mats and Ares target cards. There are four Entente scouts against two CP scouts and one two-seater. I was flying the two-seater, and Mike was flying the scouts (the extra scout was for any passers-by that wanted to join in). Thomas and Nikolas were flying the Entente scouts (again, the extra planes were for any joiners).

What happens when you make a wrong turn and collide with your escort! I nearly took out both of us, and had one point left as I attempted to race off the CP side of the mats.

So the CP took 10 VPs for photos of three targets and two downed planes. The Entente only got points for one downed plane. We lost one pilot each to burning crashes.

Not pictures of the second game, but it was an intercept scenario where two Entent two-seaters were returning from a mission, and the Central Powers were trying to shoot them down. Two Entente scouts were to come "help" them get home. Mike and I flew two scouts each, and we messed up the intercept. Both two-seaters made it off the far side of the mats, and we lost a few scouts each. 6 VPs to the Entente, and 2 to the CP.

A few of the visitors, and a few of the Museum staff were interested in the game, but no-one joined in this time. We are setting up another game for the end of April.

    More to follow...

That was a nasty bump for the CP Mike - good luck with the campaign.

Well, I've been showing up at the Museum for "Last Saturday of the Month" Wings of Glory demos/campaign opportunities, with limited success.

Today, there was six pilots on the table at a time, and up to seven people over the day. Andrew and Mike showed up first, with Preston coming in a bit afterwards for another try at the game, but Preston also brought his father, Clint, to check out the game.

Later, Kelsey showed up to assist, and when Clint and Preston had to leave, Nikolas came by to see if there was any planes on the table, today.

Besides this group of players, we also chatted up some Museum visitors about the game, and aviation history.

So, pretty much my most successful day at the Museum. Here's to a few more, going forward...

Thanks for the heads up on this Mike, and for the pictures to illustrate your escapade.
It is good to have the wanderer back in place again. Looking forward to seeing you in the Fall.
Any idea of your itinerary yet?
