Thread: 3D printing "at home"

    Default 3D printing "at home"

    Interesting experiment

A friend of mine bought an ANET A8 3D printer from Amazon for £178 and did a few experimental prints for me...
    A few 1/600 scale ships and a 1/144 RE2000

The RE2000 is printed in "low res" 0.2 and took about 1 1/2 hours (material cost 30p) - with a bit of tweaking could probably get it much better but seems similar res to WSF.
I just have to remove the support material now.

As usual the photo doesn't really do it justice - click for the full size image.

    Home printed

Looks like home printers are getting better...

The ships are nice, but too modern for World War I. Where did he get the digital files?
So how many books are in your personal library?

I found a bunch of files on Thingiverse. Lots of 1:200 scale trucks, tanks, other tracked units for WWI

Typically, not really. There's not a whole lot one can do with monitoring the process anyway, save interrupt and toss the trash if things are going horribly wrong in the middle.

I never do. I do wait and watch until it has started, usually the first minute or so. Just to make sure the filament is adhering to the bed and my z-axis isn't off. Then I don't worry about it until I hear it beeping. Occasionally I'll check in to see if somethings gone awry, especially if I'm trying new settings or a completely new print that is complex.

I have 3D printed a Spitfire MK.IX but the propellers were so fragile the two fell of.
