With five players turning out, scenarios were a bit odd. First up, our normal opening dogfight. I had received the Scaroni HD1 and wanted to fly that. We downgraded the plane to a single gun and had three Italians single-gun aircraft against two Austro-Hungarian two-gun airplanes; fewer planes, more guns. Hmm.

I am overlapping Will flying the Aviatik D.I, while Ben, in the Phonix D I is overlapping Todd. Will's airplane is sitting off to the side at the top of the photograph. Bill is flying a Nieuport 17 somewhere on the table.


My Hanriot HD1 overlaps Todd's HD1 as we give chase to Ben in a Phonix D I.


Bill and I have passed Ben and must turn around. Will is trying to converge on us.


Mutually assured destruction! Ben and I take out each other. I succumb to accumulated damage.


While Ben draws the Boom card. Those 4 and 3 damage cards at +1 certainly didn't help.


Now with two Italian aircraft against one, the scenario was called. Are the Italians the victors?

Scenario #2. A Belgian RE8 is on a photo recon mission with a Belgian Sopwith Camel in support. Three German Albatros D Va oppose us.

I am seeing triple. Three very nice paint jobs by Todd.


The gimbal mounts really make the scene, but Todd, flying one of Ernst Udet's D Va is really giving me the business.


Still getting hammered by Todd while my protection is somewhere else.


Kaboom!! The camera is broken so the mission is over.

Scenario #3. Another photo recon mission from the other side. I am flying a Nexus Roland C II with a Bill flying a Halberstadt D II for protection. Opposed are three Nieuport N 11s. Rockets were not used in this battle.

I am swinging to the right to get around the slower moving Nieuports.


Todd is closing with that non-rocket firing Nieuport.


Bill manages to get a shot across the front of my airplane to get Will with the dreaded Boom.


However I succumb to damage. Lots of zeroes in the +1 category, but there was enough other damage to take me out.

The mat is from gameonterrainmats.com, their Aerial View terrain mat. I would like to get a water one for seaplane action.

We were playing with a single A and B deck, so only one boom card per deck. Sometimes we play with multiple decks, and depending on how they are shuffled, the booms could be grouped.
