Thread: Trouble on the Adriatic Coast

Default Trouble on the Adriatic Coast

I thought I'd get my meagre yet recently reinforced Italian front collection out for a quick spin on a rainy day last week.
Thus it was that Offiziersstellvertereter Julius Hefty piloting a UFAG C.I with Feldwebel Fredrich Busa found himself on a recon mission first heading to a port on the Adriatic coast before heading inland to photo a rail yard. He's closely escorted by Offiziersstellvertereter Franz Kowalzik flying a Maachi M.5 and Feldwebel Julius Lahner in a Aviatik D.I.
Hefty eases back and lets his escorts take the lead.

Drawn to the action other Italian patrols close quickly - a pair of Hanriot Hd.1's piloted by Sottotenente's Giovanni Allasia & Georgio Resch (76), backed up by a Spad XIII piloted by Sottotenente Michele Amantea.

Well that was over way too quickly - I did go on and replay this scenario another day, on that occasion the Aviatik was shot down but everything else survived and the Ufag achieved its mission (somehow) to recon the two targets and escape back to the coast but I thought I'd post this one as a taste of how it can go oh so wrong so quickly - 3 pilots wounded & a boom card in a handful of turns
There is nothing researched or historical about this scenario - I just got the models out and went for it for self entertainment. I assisted the Ufag to line up otherwise all machines were flown using my D8 AI charts & Alt rules, shooting is peg to peg.

Thanks for this AAR, Dave. It was a good use of the coastal map and the pictures look realistic.

Very good AAR with excellent photographs. I was researching Italian Hanriots and came across this.
So how many books are in your personal library?

It's always nice to see some action in the Adriatic! It's one of my favorite areas of the conflict. Glad to see some of your pilots broke off the action rather than fighting to the death - I assume that's part of the AI aspect, Dave? I have yet to try a solo game using any of the mechanisms folks have come up with here on the site - I shall have to give it a go one of these days.

    All the best,
    Matt

Have a look at the OTT rules Matt, they are designed for AI survival amongst other things. Something for us to chat about in June !

Matt you should join up for our next OTT Solo campaign that will start towards the last quarter of the year.
In the meantime check out some of the AAR's to give you an idea of how they play out.

Thanks, Dave and Barry! I shall give 'em a once-over in the next little while, and we can talk about the ins and out at Origins, Dave. I think I am going to want to start playing some solo games, as I don't really play as much as I'd like now. And while the lads I game with are somewhat available outside of our regular play dates, the solo stuff would give me some more options.

    All the best,
    Matt
